Getting back into riding after a 4 year hiatus...I assume SV650's are still the most common bikes out there for noobs and have the most spares available?

If so, are there still only 2 types of SV650's? 1st Gen (up to 2003) and 2cnd gen (2003+)?

    Suzuki's website has a SV650SF for 2010, what's up with that?

I'm hoping that any 2003+ SV650 will have interchangeable parts.

thanks...looking forward to my first track day in the fall.

    cheers

but to answer your question - yes - 2 frame types - 3 motor types... they went to a twin plug in 2008.

The F at the end stands for fairing....it comes with the lower fairings. Otherwise just like the rest of the 2nd gen S models.

Ok, difference between SV650 and SV650s for 2nd generation?

Mr. Google tells me it's different fairings, different length swingarm, different rad, and gearing/chain length. Are they interchangeable or what?

    twilkinson3 see god...brake....

no difference tho the 03 has a few quirks, if you are lookign for easy aftermarket etc go 04+ - heck you can make a gen2 motor work without too much grief in a gen1 frame for that matter

What does the 2 plugs offer and what "quirks" did the 03 have?

Less power. :D Seriously, there has been a good bit of discussion about the dual plug motors putting out less power in various states of build compared to the single plug. However, that doesn't appear to be true for all builders/tuners but it seems to be a fairly common complaint.

As far as I know the '03 has a different subframe from '04 to present and the '03 and '04 use a different fuel pump (electrical plug is different) than '05 to present.

Most of the tuners here don't like the twin plug motors.

04 - 06 seem to be the 2nd gen. of choice.

03 had subframe that was used only on the 03.

03 seat only works on 03 subframe. Can't use 04 and up seat.

Transmission different on 03 as well.

Might be some other small differences, but those are the ones that matter......
