Hey I was wondering if any of you have any recommendations for hotels in Vegas. My girlfriend and I and a few of our friends will be going here in early to mid Janurary. I know people say to spend the least amount you can on the room since you wont be in it but im sure my girlfriend and I will be in it for a little while ;). Right now we are looking at Treasure Island, Mandalay Bay and The Venitian. Right now I am liking Mandalay Bay. I would really like to stay at The Venitian but I think its going to be out of our price range unless i can get some kind of coupon or discount some where.

Anyone have any suggestions? Any do's and don'ts

I've rocked out at New York New York & MGM Grand.
Both are nice. Most casinos are pretty similiar. Biggest thing for me is
to get a room with a view of the strip. Vegas has some killer deals
    going on now.

I just went for the first time in july, and picked the Mirage to stay at. I would highly reccomend it...good room, awesome casino/bars/stuff to do at hotel, plus great mid strip location. Right across the strip from the venitian(which is awesome), and within walking distance to lots. They even have a tram that runs between it and treasure island. Great mid strip view also. One of the coolest places we went through, though was NYNY. I would reccomend at least heading there even if you dont stay there.

ya mandalay bay is doing a deal where if you buy 2 nights u get a 3rd free. they end up just knocking off the cheapest of the nights of your stay. I think they average $130 a night. Where The Venitian averages about $159 a night and the room i really want is $200 a night.

I like Mandalay Bay myself. We're usually there in May when you can use the pool, cabanas, etc.
Not sure if January weather works for all that though.

The strip is a long drive from the race track. Best hotel relatively close is the Golden Nugget. They renovated it a few years ago and its actually quite nice. Plus, you can get rooms really cheap, like $50 a night. Its old-school, but old LV has some pretty cool charm that the strip doesn't have. And, you won't have to pay $5 for a cup of coffee.

The Luxor is pretty cool, so is Cesars.
Do NOT stay at Stratosphere... it's cheap but it's ghetto.... literally!

Come the last week of Jan... and you can hop over to the track and watch your West coast pals race! :p

Get out to Red Rocks one day while you're there, and do the scenic drive... pretty neat and totally worth the coupla hour round trip in the rental car. Seriously, you can't gamble the WHOLE time you're there!

As for lodging, I've always stayed at the Luxor, but I won't again... the place is aging an in SERIOUS need of renovation!

I've been to Vegas 3 times in January, my company has our yearly sales kick-off meetings there, will be there again next month too...last week of Jan. We usually always stay at the Hard Rock, last year we stayed at the Palazzo.

Rooms are indeed about as cheap as they are going to get that time of year. I missed my flight and got a room at Hard Rock on 5 minutes notice on a Friday for $99. lol

Anyway, I've stayed at Hard Rock, Palazzo, Venetian, MGM Grand, MGM Skylofts, Luxor, Mandalay, the Hotel, Planet Hollywood. All of them were fine (obviously the Skylofts were alot more than fine, lol). I would say best bang for the buck......check out the Palazzo. It's the sister resort and attached to the Venetian so you can walk in between the two as well get line skipping priviledges at Venetians's nightclub Tao which is nice (Thursday is their good night).

Like I said, that's where I stayed this past January and it was all around pretty good I'd have to say. Just about as fancy as the Venetian and it's decently cheaper. And the rooms are pretty sweet, awesome bathroom and pretty cool "living room" area where you and friends can chill in.

This is the smallest room, its 720 sq ft.

The Palazzo is actually going for the same price as The Venetian oddly enough.

Just search around on the travel sites, Expedia, travelocity, Hotels.com, etc. We were in LV two weeks ago for the AMA Hall of Fame thing at the Hard Rock Hotel, and we left, went out to Death Valley, and when we came back searched on the net and found a $26/night room at Tuscany, with 2 free drinks and $20 off dinner, on a last minute reservation basis. Middle of the week is better, of course. After finding that deal, we stayed at Paris Las Vegas, because the wife was taken with it, go figure, but oh well, deals are out there if you want them, on the Strip. Just be aware there are lots of old and sort of run down places with familiar names.

+1 on the Golden Nugget. I know it's not the strip, but Freemont Street is pretty cool. It was redone and the rooms are nice as well as the casino and restaurants. Just about the same as you'd see at all of them, but it was much cheaper.

cNYnCArvr A little bit of this...

HOOTERS HOTEL CASINO!! Seriously though, the rates are cheap for weekdays(sun-thurs) sometimes at 20-30 a night and typically at or under 100 for fri/sat. It is directly across from MGM and next to Tropicana(skip that place) at the south portion of the strip. 5minute walk to NYNY. Casino floor isn't too big but since the hotel is still fairly new the rooms are decent and clean. I've had good payouts at their blackjack tables, nothing crazy but for what I'll put down it's a good return. You want right smack in the middle for a decent price you can go for Bally's. We do this often with my ladie's parents when they fly in from Toronto, her dad only likes to visit the Hooters. Treasure Island up on the other end isn't too bad either.
