I went to Duke Medical Center today and spoke with Scott's Dad and Uncle. His father said Scott is stable at this point.
Thoughts and Prayers sent to both riders from ECK-Racing here in the Northeast. It was an awful scene to come upon Saturday. Wish them a quick and full recovery
I am currently waiting to get todays update on Scott directly from his parents at the hospital. When Scott arrived at Duke he was concious, knew his name but not much else. His vital signs were good, he had suffered compound fracture of the right ankle, broken left forearm, broken vertabrae in his neck, severe facial trauma, and three hematomas on his brain. I was able to see him very briefly but he was heavily sedated and immobilized. Sometime through the night the hematomas grew, but not of significant amount to warrant concern of the doctors. Subsequent test revealed they were stable. Scott went to the operating room sometime sunday night, they temporarily cleaned and stabilized the compound fracture of the ankle, stabilized the forearm. The doctors initially thought he may need a halo but decided he only needed a collar for the broken vertabrae. I believe I was told only two vertabrae and that there was no misalignment. He had been on a respirator during the medically induced coma,as common procedure, but he can breathe on his own. They will remove the respirator as they bring him out of sedation sometime today, for more tests. He will begin facial surgery tommorow. I will give updates as I get them. His family knows of everyones well wishes and support.
Said a prayer as I saw the helo coming in...I was in the back section watching that race at the right hander after the bridge, those guys were blanketing each other and they were flying, line of sight with the hills there prevented me from seeing what happened, but I doubt moving flag stations or anything else would have prevented a pack that close moving that fast from getting tangled up given how the track is laid out there...My thoughts go out to everyone involved...It was reassuring to see the corner workers moving decisively with the flags, Mongo out supervising the situation, and the EMT's working efficiently out there...
Good to hear Keith is doing well. I've heard that he took a monster hit. Also good to hear Rosey is stabilized. Scott is about as tough as tough gets, I have no doubt he'll be 100% in no time at all. If anyone on the planet would be proud of facial scars, it's him. Please let his family know that he's one of the truly good guys in this sport, and that he's got literally thousands of racers behind him. If any of them need anything at all, all they need to do is ask.
This is Keith's wife, Jackie. Keith says thanks to everyone who showed support. He also wishes the best for the recovery of Rosey! Keith's on the road to recovery. He'll be in the hospital (University of Virginia) another day or two yet. Can confirm that he does have two broken vertebrae (lower neck & upper back), broken nose & face, broken rib & bruised lung. Haven't seen a doctor around lately, but hopefully that's a good sign . Truly do appreciate all the well wishes of everyone...what a great family of friends you guys have together! <3
Keith is still in there....... I was there this morning. They are waiting for a few specialists to review the CT scans of the C7, it is fractured and displaced... lung is just bruised, not collapsed. He has not been allowed to move or eat anything but liquids since being transported. He is ready to get the F out of there though, but not until tomorrow at the earliest.
As of 3:20 pm today Scott is in stable condition. He will be in the ICU @ Duke for two to three weeks. Facial surgery will begin tomorrow around 2-3pm. Would anyone in the area possibly have an extra room so that family would have a place to stay throughout Scotts stay At Duke? This week rooms at the hotel, near the hospital, are being provided for his Mom and Dad through one of Scotts work associates
If no one else steps up, let me know. My Mom lives in Raleigh and may be willing to put them up for a night or two. It's a bit of a drive, but not unworkable.
oops lol.... I typed that up earlier and waited to talk to you 1 more time b4 I posted it..... and you beat me too it.
Matt, I don't live close enough to help with a room but I would like to visit Scott when it's possible. Please let me/us know when he is taking visitors. You're a good friend and I appreciate the updates.
Glad to hear he's doing well. I'm in Allentown and would be happy to come out to York to help you get him and his gear sorted when you guys get back in town. I'll pm you my cell.
good news all around considering how bad the accident must have been thoughts and prayers for scott and keith
