64bit AMD Turion X2 2ghz 4gb DDR2 667 RAM 250gb SATA HDD 8X DL DVD-RW/RAM ATI RADEON X1270 256MB video w/ HDMI hell of a lappy for the price. although, you may run into trouble getting some things to function properly on a 64-bit vista... just wipe it and install your OS of choice..

if you're refering to XP not installing on lappies with SATA, get a copy of XP SP3. it has SATA support built into the install.. main problem is driver support for XP if that's your route.. although, i've never had problems hunting down drivers through other sources. honestly, with all the bashing on Vista aside, it really does run just fine (now that hardware and software venders have finally caught up to support it properly).. i still wouldnt touch anything 64bit outside of a server environment though..
I would shy away from it. There is still a lot of software that will not run on 64-bit. Plus, the Intel Core 2 Duo is a much better processor than the Turion. You should be able to find one in that price range.
yea i wouldnt buy anything non-Intel for notebook/desktop.. but i think it would be quite hard to find a similarly configured Intel based lappy at that price
I've seen a few ad's here and there. Wait till Black Friday. My father-in-law saw a killer laptop last year for sub $500. had to get up early though...
Newegg Go for the ones with 4-5 eggs, read the reviews. Edit: use the left side menu to sort as necessary
stay as far away as you can from that. vista for one sucks and 64 bit additions of all MS stuff sucks. I still dont order vista on any of our machines at work. but Im a Mac guy so im bias. get a mac you will not regret that for sure.
• Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 • 250GB hard drive • Built-in 802.11agn wireless• 3GB of DDR2 memory • Burns DVDs and CDs • Built-in webcam Curcuit City Toshiba L 305 829.99 wifey just bought her a new one seemed pretty good to me although I know less than Acree
829.00 is about 300 more than i wanna spend. i was lookin at the 650.00 as being THE highest i could go. and i thought with all the ram in that thing i would be golden and maybe stupid to not jump on the deal, seems the 64bit takes much more ram just to run than the 32bit does. 4G of ram would power the 32bit nicely i would think, but not so with the 64 it seems... wonder would it still run better than a laptop in the 5-600 range with the 32 and 3G ram?? because thats what i was lookin at before to get...
