Im so happy to read of the progress you are making Jose, keep up the good work! See you at Jennings Alex .
Here's an update I found on the "other" site.... "8/6/07 @ 10:50pm Today Jose got the tracheotomy today. His vitals were high for most of the day but once they put that in they went down to normal ranges. We could definitely tell that he wanted and needed that to reduce his stress level. They have also taken him off of the cooler IV to let his body maintain its own temperature. It remained constant at about 101*F all day. Also, he is basically breathing on his own today. They had originally planned to also do the feeding tube into his stomach but once they did the tracheotomy they decided that he had already endured enough poking and prying, so they are waiting for tomorrow. His recovery is slow but steady. 8/7/07 @ 11:00pm Today they had to place the cooling blanket back on him because his temperature was much higher than what they wanted. Also his white blood cell count is still increasing so more blood is needed to try and figure out the infection site. The doctor attempted to place the feeding tube into his stomach today but found out that his intestine is sitting on top of his stomach verse behind his stomach. They said that is happens to about 20% of patients so what they are going to do tomorrow is take him to the OR and do some minor surgery to make it work. Also Jose went to get a CAT scan today on his head, sinuses and chest. We will find out tomorrow what if anything the results show. When I left his bed side today he was running 101.7*F, which is down from 103.2*F earlier today. He also opened his eyes more today and more often. I will keep everyone posted tomorrow (trust me I will NOT let another day go by without posting, many people have let me know how often they check this!)"
Does anyone know how Jose and his family are holding up financially? Is there an account set up where we can help with the medical expenses?
8/8/07 Day 10 @ 10:50 Jose is doing very well today. He is still running a fever, but considered stable still. He is opening his eyes much more today but still no one is home. Jose also started to cough today, which scared the hell out of us, but the nurses say that is good because it means he is coming to more. He went to the OR today to get the feeding tube to be placed in his stomach at about 4:30pm today but did not come back to the room until 6:15pm and came back completely un-put together. While he was down in the OR his fever raised, they lost the electrical plug to one of his reader machines, threw away his thermometer, and didn't set his cooling blanket to the right settings, but he did somehow get back in one piece. Today they also clamped the tube from his head and he lasted 45 minutes. That is very impressive. He is also on much less medication for pain and sedation but has to be kept with very little stimulus. I will keep everyone posted tomorrow. We just opened a Paypal account for anyone here who would like to HELP Jose & his Family. As soon as the account get verified I'll start a NEW thread with all the info Hey Jose I miss ya man > I got a bunch of thiings to tell ya. Praying for u everyday
