Figured I'd share some pics and video of the home built turbojet engine I finished up recently. I used a cheap eBay turbo for the compressor and turbine stages. Pretty much everything aside from that was fabricated from scratch. Even the inlet and exhaust tubing was rolled from sheet stock. Mostly just a big exercise in metal fabrication & welding. And other stuff like homemade ignition and Arduino programming. Lots of time overall! Runs pretty smooth and rips at about 127 to 128 dB at idle. This isn't really going into anything, I just wanted to build it and hear it run. I may add an afterburner exhaust but this thing already kinda scares me enough. But for sure I'd like to build a bigger version sometime. Video link of latest run and walkaround: A few pics of the finished jet below, I'll spare you the 1000 pics I probably took during the whole process lol:
I think the BBS just might have a new face On its mount insanemore for its most elite lunatics! That is epic!
Some classmates and I built something similar in college for a class project. Yours is way nicer to say the least! Our turbo was from a 4 cylinder Mercury Cougar. The combustor was made using an expansion chamber from an old two-stroke go cart. We didn't have an exhaust nozzle. Ignition was from a VW bug distributor; we spun it with a drill. Oil was gravity feed. Some how we managed to make it run and not to blow ourselves up.
Why didn't you call me? You know how many turbine engines we have in the shop? You could Frankenstein the shit outta some stuff here.
Nice. Are you that kid from Duluth or Gwinnett that used to race minis and post stuff like that here?
