I've heard of lots of car people talking about the wall sucking them in so I guess it makes sense for it to happen to bikes also. Hopefully everyone heals fast
Not that far off line that if something happens... You have to be fully engaged finishing that corner cause you are wide open
Not to mention winds were pretty heavy that afternoon. 25 mph gusts straight outta' the ENE, so pushing right up into that fence as they hit the banking....
Always hate hearing this shit. Get well soon Melkman. Broken ribs suck! Always seems to be the first thing to go when a bike torpedos into you. Athletic tape really helped me with my broken ribs. Holds shit together while you heal. Still sucks. Glad you appear to be ok.
It's not far off the line. Guys are always pushing the exit drives, I've seen people clip the corner of the air fence several times exiting that turn. Farrell and Melka are usually running within second or so of lap record pace, it's completely feasible that a big wheelspin could cause the bike to move up the banking and contact the air fence hard enough to turn the bars. Sucks.
Man oh man did you guys see the onboard footage of Farrell blasting into the air fence at the top of the banking. FUUUUUCK
Facebook description says he spun the rear up when hitting the transition, but he was way wide on that corner exit even before that...... I think this was just one of those perfect-storm mishaps with unfortunate results........just thankful it wasn't worse.
No he said he spun up the rear on the exit of T6, then when he hit the transition it unsettled the bike (can't remember exact wording he used). But since he lost the rear before I imagine that's why he was wide to begin with.
The fast line does get pretty close to that last soft barrier. I’ve seen it clipped before. I usually get within a few feet of it on exit onto the banking.
