Rule book says valve diameter has to remain stock

    2.8.8.2
    k. The valves may be replaced but the valve face must remain the same diameter as homologated.

I would guess 85 to 90 hp will be ballpark for the smaller twins in this class....depending on your dyno.

Thanks for the correction. I remembered thinking Superbike rules when reading about the class and guess I assumed no valve limit.

Yeah, it looks like they've kept stock bore, stroke and valve diameters in an effort to ensure some balance of performance. I think the smaller twins will all be fairly equal in terms of engine power. Getting the chassis set up dialed will be crucial.

That monstrous 180/60 spec tire is probably going to require SV racers to run a long wheelbase for swingarm clearance.

  5. Will they require SVs to run the 180/60?

Does Dunlop have a 160 Slick?

They have a 165 slick which works on 4.5-5.5 rims. I've heard the 180/60 slick will be the twins spec tire. The FZ07 and Duc 800 come with a 5.5 "rim. The EX650 and SV will have to go to a 5.5 for the spec tire.

I'm putting together a 2017 Ninja 650 right now. It looks like the ZX-6 rear wheel will work with just a bearing change and possibly modified spacers. The ZX-6 front end and 2016 ZX-10 rear shock bolt directly on. The 636 body work also fits decently, but you have to build some custom brackets.

KTM is quoting the price of the 790 at around $11k, per A&R

So that means you'll be able to get a left over 2018 model for $8K. When they're all still sitting there on the showroom floor in 2020.

We ran the 180/60 at Willow Springs last weekend and we had it on one of the bikes at Las Vegas at the last round.
The tire warmer is a snug fit, but no issues other than that.
You will not ride off the edge of the tire, like you can with the 165 on a 5.5’ rim.
It got down to 33 Saturday night, so it was NOT a good night to run out of propane to heat the trailer ...

Never heard of anyone running a 165 on a 5.5" rim... the stock SV 4.5", yes.

5.5" is the recommended rim width for the Dunlop and Bridgestone 165 slicks.
