So he has publicly said he is going to be on someone's factory team next year. He's on a factory bike with a factory paycheck now. Does he really jump ship because his leathers are the wrong color? If he can't get it done on a factory spec duc I don't see him dropping seconds off his lap times on another brand. Discuss
He will get a much larger paycheck on a factory bike, an probably be a 5-10 rider on any factory bike other that Ducati. In my opinion he is trading the chance to be a champion for a larger paycheck if he goes anywhere other than Duc. Only he can make that choice.
Good for him and maybe he’ll get the giant paycheck, the hookers and blow but who will really care? He’s a cog at Ducati and they’ll just drop in another and not miss a beat if he leaves. Good luck at Honder, juggle nutz!
I doubt he has a "factory paycheck", or at least anything truly comparable to what he could get on a factory team.
On the factory bike he may get a lot more input than on a Satellite team too. Meaning he gets more clout and influence with the engineers when they make decisions. I have heard that Aleix has had a huge influence on the evolution of the Ape. If he’s retiring, kinda sad to see him go. Good guy.
Most press I’ve read says the Aprilia factory team does not offer the same pay though. So would he really take a lower paying ride on a factory team? I’d love to see him or MM93 on the factory Aprilia for sure, but I would be surprised to see Jorge leave Ducati for them.
This is exactly my thoughts. Aprilia doesn't pay big money so what would be the motivation other than ego
I can’t find the article but it expressed the heavy influence of Aleix who has been the only rider they kept… so who knows about pay… and depending on the person at what point does their desire to win override their desire for financial status? And that’s what we’re really talking about as none of them will ever have to work again if they’ve done anything right with their money… MM93 is the extreme example but what would say Zarco give for that one win he got before going to Honda? I’d bet he’d pay dearly for it… same with JM89 and his thinking it’s his only chance at a factory ride… reality or not he’s on the best bike in a solid team and if he can’t get it done this year he won’t get it done on anther bike… imo he’s similar to Vinales as he was fast on the Suzuki… got the Yamaha ride… scared JLo a little with his flashes of speed and then mentally blocked himself over and over… I think Martin is closer to a Vinales than to a JLo although he seems to have the douche factor down… but that could just be media spin making a bad guy… he sure smiles a bunch for supposed to be such an ass…
you find that Bez clip Ben?!? I looked for tens of min and didn’t find anything other than that transcript of it… someone has to have better googlefu and patience than me
I couldn't find it even though I posted the link here somewhere. I can't remember the title I made for the thread
If they gave him the same 4 million they were rumored to have offered Quart, I would bet that is more than he is making on his Ducati contract.
To keep Martin happy they gave him the full Factory treatment which was the SAME pay as Pecco was on with Ducati up until he re-signed last month for another couple years. Same bike, same updated parts schedule, and same money - just with purple paint instead of red. I believe I read it was 2 million Euro's annually plus bonus'. If I'm Honda, or a well funded Yamaha effort, I offer him 5 mill/yr plus bonus' and lock up a Top 3 rider for the next couple years - Yamaha with the complete new bike coming, satellite team, and Jarvis gonzo would be the best option if I'm Martin but either would do if they had him sign an NDA and told him their future plans for bike development which would be bespoke for him (and Quattro if at Yamaha).
Not me. I offer him slightly more and he can take it or not. The Ducati seems to make outside top 10 riders look good and inside the top 10 look great. Me? I wait for Binder to come on the market and pair him with Miller.
He’s entertaining, doesn’t cause drama and I could market him to outside the norm sponsors. Plus he’s not yet another Spaniard or eye-talian.
