Im looking to either get a Van for next season or a Truck to pull my 21foot trailer.

Id really like to see the Cargo/Minivan set ups people have and if they have a designated track van, thats be great. Thanks!

The best cargo van set up I have seen is the Freightliner Sprinter w/ a diesel (exactly what Rhiannon has/uses). More than enough room for 3 bikes with spares and tools (if u packed well, 4 bikes easily). Also offers room for probably 2 queen size air mattress for you to sleep in after you unpacked the bikes/spares/tools.

Here's mine...'03 E-350 powerstroke regular length cargo van. 2 bikes will just barely fit along with all the other necessary stuff. 18-20 MPG @ 70MPH fully loaded. I used to throw everything in the back of a pick-up but the van set-up is much better. Keeps everything out of thieve's eye-sight and dry in the rain and it's easier to drive than towing a trailer. You can fit one queen size air mattress in the back. I was looking into getting a sprinter instead but they're more expensive and hard to find used.

the sprinter's dont have much power imo. they only have a 2.7l turbo mercedez diesel. rhiannon's doesnt pull that lil camper too well, and it's only a 2k lb trailer. the room is nice, but if you wanna tow anything, it's no good.

The E-350 powerstroke has plenty of power:up:

i wouldnt trade my sprinter for anything. it gets 24mpg at 80 on the highway. it'll run that speed fully loaded with 2 bikes and all the gear. its not designed to be a tow vehicle, so i can see it struggling to do so. plus if you're under 6'2, you can stand up in the back.

yea, i'd love one if i didnt have to tow something, plus FYI i'm 6'3" and can stand up in it.

im 5'8", I can almost stand up in a Ford Escort...haha.

Right now im leaning back and forth between the Astro/Safari and the Ford Vans. Id love to find a diesel van, but for the money im looking to spend (Less than $2500) I want something reliable enough to drive down to VIR from NJ and not be worried about making it home.

    (diet)DrThunder Why so serious, son?

    You're gonna pull a 21' trailer w. an Astro van? Good luck with that...yikes. I towed a 6x10 w. an E150 w. 5.4L, and there's no way I'd try a 21' with that van, never mind a mini.

Or, did you mean either a van by itself, or a truck and a trailer? I just bought a 95 Suburban 7.4L in great shape for $5,000...just towed with it for the first time this weekend and it rocks. I was only pulling a 6x12 w/ 2 bikes, but I could barely feel the difference between that and no load. I'm sure it could easily tow a large enclosed trailer.

Yeah, no way the van will be with the trailer, its an either/or situation...

We pulled our 21ft trailer with 4 bikes and a dirbike out to Beaver with a Z71 suburban and it was awful...wobbles over 70mph

I've got a 2000 Chevy Astro Cargo van that I haul my bikes with. Cost me $2000 2 years ago with 120,000 miles on the 6 cylinder. I routinely travel from San Diego to Phoenix, Buttonwillow and Vegas at 90+ mph and get around 20-22mpg...even through the mountains. It's perfect with plenty of room for a single racer with a single bike. With 2 bikes and a passenger you have to plan out the packing...especially with a big generator. The best part is that you just throw down some indoor/outdoor carpet and a couple of eyehooks (the ones meant to go in the square holes in pickup beds work great) and it is ready to go.

For my needs traveling alone or with a single pit-hand I wouldnt buy anything else. Plenty of power, easy to load/unload, keeps everything safe, easy on gas and very cheap to buy.

    TWF2 2 heads are better than 1

I had E350 with 5.4 motor which is great for loading in but not perfect for towing.
just got new 06 powerstroke E 350 and love it,better gas milage and can tow anything if needed.and I had 3 full bikes and pit bike inside van.
I was thinking about sprinter but I go over mountains up and down all the time which would make it slow and no towing.

Used to have a 94 Astro. Very good, dependable, cheap. Lots of room for bikes and camping, etc. Sold it this season as it was a little long in the tooth and got a 06 Chevy express with a 6.6L turbo diesel. It can pull a trailer but I've no need as the thing is huge inside (plus I'm racing a 125 now). sprinter is a quality vehicle, but the are spendy and hard to come by. The only other thing about the Sprinter in that it is a Mercedes and you will pay for that in terms of maintainance verses a Ford or Chevy.

I've got DDTs old van. 96 E150. I LOAD that van full of crap.

Two 10x20 awnings, Bike, toolbox, two gear boxs, two coolers, front and rear

stand, extra wheels and tires, bicycle and some other stuff. Throw it all out

at the track, and inflate a queen air mattress. Plus if I ever break down I don't

have to leave a trailer by the road. 12.6 to 14 MPG and it's a conversion van

so the seats rock. I forgot, I have a platform on the hitch that I throw my

generator and gas cans on. Wouldn't do it any other way.
