It's all that. Plus. Now imagine a whole new world, a thousand times bigger, where you no longer wonder where that dirt road goes. Even after 17 years, it never gets old.
Most fun street bike was my ‘21 KTM Duke 890 R. It was both the best and worst bike I’ve ever ridden on the street. Other contenders include the various V4 Tuonos I’ve owned, ‘20 SD1290, 2 FZ09’s, and my ‘08 FJR1300. Currently on a KTM SMT 890 and if I could swap the 890 R engine in (extra 22-25 ponies) and find flat bars for it to drop em 2” or so, it would also be on my all time fav list.
Favorite? Well, most memorable would be A ('95 I think) KTM Duke. okay enough in Buttscrew PA, Awesome for DC and total one way trip nightmare on VA highways. Kinda miss it but don't miss being blowed up on 66.
I've owned 17 race bikes and 6 street bikes so I have a nice batch from which to pick. For the street, it was without a doubt the 2001 VFR 800. It was capable of doing everything I wanted from a street bike. Favorite overall: TZ 250. By a long shot.
My current fleet of plated bikes covers all of my assorted riding 'itches:' '22 Yamaha Tracer 9 GT, '24 Husqvarna 701 Enduro, FE 350s, TE 250, '08 Yamaha Zuma 125 and '98 Zuma 50. Oh yeah, '78 Honda CB125 also. Tracer is the perfect highway bike for my needs, with cruise control, heated grips and adjustable windscreen. It's not all that heavy either. I need some 17" cast wheels and a bigger front brake to do track days with my hooligan / dual-sport road bike 701. Less than 400 miles in 3 weeks but I absolutely love it so far!
I should be blocked from this thread...I was afraid of this. I'm currently at 12 bikes, and kept telling myself that 11 was enough. Now I want a 900 SS, an FJ1100, a Blackbird, a ZX12, an MT09, a Super Duke...and the list goes on.
I was a fan of hyperbores... zx11 & 12, GSX1300, Concours, etc. Spent about 11 years on various modified GPz turbos which all made the torque as a liter + bike was capable of... only downside of a turbocharged bike was the water that accumulated in the airbox. Was a big fan of fuel injection
Thinking about it, I've had some HORRIBLE street bikes. Shit that shouldn't be on the road or have even been a pile of parts that shouldn't have been allowed to have existed in a single place.
I have had some great bikes. Interceptor 500, GPZs. But it always goes back to V twins for the street. I think my Buell XB12 with LSL bars was the best. Rode the Alps with it. I honestly think I was the fastest on the street with it in the corners. Read horrible reviews, but once I set the t up, I was no shit quick. Lost that one to a girl in a big SUV.
A friend had a Lightning and let me keep it for a week to ride to see if I wanted to buy it. That was an awesome bike.
My Street Triple R is pretty much perfect for the street riding I'm doing these days, which is a general runabout with the power and handling of a sporty bike without the ergos. Plus it's funny to call it a STripR.
GasGas sm 700 only has 480 miles on it but makes me smile going in and out of the few corners in sw mi. 84 gpz 1100 was fun too.
