Heard an interesting proposal on the Paddock Pass podcast yesterday re: riders. The guys on the pod were floating the idea of a Rea and Bautista pairing at Honda WSBK in 2026. And the more they talked about it, the more it sounded like a great idea. From the sound of it, it would bring Rea full circle back to Honda where he started (and had some success, no?) and for Bautista it would be a second chance to make an impact with Honda as his '20-'21 years were unsucessful. Additionally, there was nearly universal agreement that Iannone is out for '26. What other moves are you all thinking are likely/hopeful/exciting?
Thanks. It was probably the guy with speaking that other language who was talking at the time, which prevented me from hearing any of that.
Eh, I'd check you history on that. Kawasaki is definitely the highlight but I believe he had some wins on the Honda and if memory serves, got a fill in ride on the Repsol GP bike for at least one round. Success on the Honda is what got him the Kawi deal.
Success in spite of being on Honda, is what I would say. 15 hard fought wins between 2009 and 2014. 2 whole rides in 2012 in MotoGP, and nothing after that to show they valued him at that level. He wasted years hoping Honda would finally come through. And it didn't happen. His final year with Honda was his highest placement in the World Superbike championship. 3rd. Again, compared to capability the Kawasaki years showed? It falls short.
Almost almost a sick burn, but they're doing supersport lap times. I'm not saying doing supersport lap times on a dump truck time bomb isn't impressive, but it's not superbike lap times. You should look into Mesa's lap record ...
In his defense, hes been worlds above everyone else who's been in that seat and hasn't cost them a shit ton in wrecked bikes either.
Does Michelin have to run a production based tire in WSBK? I know the Pirelli did, but was it a requirement or just their preference? I know they won't be in GP because they said as much, but its a interesting idea to make the production series run production tires if it isn't already a requirement.
It's funny how everyone was already blaming Pruccetti for Gerloff's performance before he even turned a wheel. It's like none of y'all remember that when Toprak was negotiating his move up to superbikes the hang-up was that he allegedly wanted to stay at Pruccetti with factory bikes, at the Kawasaki you wanted him on the factory team. Then they fucked up at Suzuka and made it a moot point.
I was really hoping he was going to get his seat back at Bonovo since Redding's contract should be up. Or even GoEleven, but that was a stretch.
