wow! That beats my 1692 fiddle… I thought I may be in the running for a win in this thread… still shooting for a podium didn’t think about that… have the oldest house in the area on the old Potawatomi reserve that my grandparents bought before I was born it is pre Indian removal act so before 1830s at least… all the logs are hand split with the bark still on in the basement/cellar and the “finished” exposed Timbers upstairs are hand cut with a 2” wide chisel… cool stuff back then with wooden pins and key ways instead of metal… was a tiny 20x20 cabin at first with the cellar just off the river bank… I was taught how to process foods there using the old ways just like who knows how many generations before me… from meats to fruits and veggies
I inherited my grandfather's tools, some of which go back to the early 1900s and may include some stuff from his father or grandfather going back into the 1800's. Some of that stuff is obviously really vintage. Grandfather was a mechanic most of his life. When he was shutting down his shop (circa 1977) and sorting through a pile of junk that had accumulated over the years he dug something out and said, "Well I'll be damned. This is a water pump to fit a Model T."
Last month at my grandpa’s I emptied a chicken house that had a bunch of model A parts… just random parts… three flywheels that I bet weighed 100lbs each
I have a slide rule from the 30's that was used by a GE Aviation engineer. His name and address are still legible on that attached masking tape label. And I have a pet tortoise that my HS girlfriend got me in...1991. My kids will inherit him, as will their kids.
Also a ton of undated metal stuff from shipwrecks I've dove. Bronze nails, iron hose clamps, a 1941 beer bottle and other dust collecting crap.
I have my great grandparents' bedroom furniture. Bed, armoire, and makeup vanity. All in storage, waiting to be restored.
My soul: It’s a mean little sucker ’bout a thousand years old But once you gets it You can’t give it back You gotta keep it forever An’ that’s a natural fact!
Probably a muzzle loader double barrel shotgun. Was leaning against the wall in an old barn for who knows how long until my Dad took it home with him in the 60's. Kinda rotted away but still cool since it was in the family for so long. I'll try and remember to get pics.
Some coins from 1700's. Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman from my Grandpa. He had it in the early 70's when I was born. Its much older but i have had it re-done. Will never get rid of that chair. They were world travelers mostly in Asia and always brought me home foreign currency or trinkets from Hong Kong (Abacus for example). I guess the chair is worth some $$. But many memories from that chair. My Uncle (his son) who is in his 70's now always sits in it if he comes over. Probably have some old tools too. All the cool stuff from my grandparents or great grandparents. Stored away in a box in attic.
I have a box of fossils, including a vertabra, so something like 70 million years old. I also own some bottles of water that are around 4 billion years old.
I have a wall hanger Powder rifle / musket from my Grandfather… Early 1800’s from what he told me… took it to a couple armory’s down here and no one could identify it… But they did say don’t try to fire it…
Fond memories of my dad and buddies getting shitfaced and firing family antiques. Navy Colt, 1800s smoothbore rifle and an undated flintlock blunderbuss. Black powder is an experience already but drunk hillbillies firing 200 year old weapons not sure of the right powder charge was a real " watch this " moment.
