Does that matter? The state, in its infinite wisdom, has decided that a properly licensed and insured sixteen year old is responsible enough to operate a motor vehicle on public highways. Absent any compelling evidence to the contrary, who am I to gainsay their conclusion?
Wel I at least would prefer some consistency in when someone is responsible enough. I believe 14 to work with parents consent, 16 to drive, 18 to vote, join the military, be tried as an adult, 21 to buy and consume alcohol. Let's pick a number shall we.
In one situation, it's an accident. In the other, the car is being used as a weapon. A weapon that someone got for the kid. Someone who raised and armed a teenage murderer. If the parent knew that the kid wasn't right in the head…
Had a chance to hear Dave Grossman speak on this topic a few years ago. His book "Assassination Generation: Video Games, Aggression, and the Psychology of Killing" and another book he recommended, "Innocent Targets" by Dorn are worthwhile reads. The latter addresses the Beslan school terrorist attack.
Nothing lazier than to blame “society” for the failure to supervise, instill values and morals, appropriately punish and otherwise protect “society” from their offspring.
If you're 65 and under, and haven't been an absolute fuck-up your entire life; you better not be counting on social security. It simply cannot be sustained without a means test being implemented pretty damn soon. FIRST substantive changes will be to include rental income and s-corp distributions as income when determining eligibility. Eventually, home ownership will be a disqualifier. Not saying this is what I endorse, just reading the writing on the wall.
We have no plans to need any of it. However, I'll take every fucking penny back I can before it collapses under the stupidity of D.C.
Flinstones vitamins. Started with Egg's reply to my comment. Damn punk-ass kids that don't remember 80s TV.
Now I'm trying to come up with some reference to the song about putting powder in a gator's ass and the Gulf of Mexico. 4 deep in beers at 13 Stripes.
