I just want to know when WERA will step up and make the National series the next AMA. Why do they make rules and just adjust them when ever they see fit. Everyone knows that under a red flag situation you always go back to the last completed lap, you don't score 5 riders as complete and the rest of the grid goes back a lap. Even the timing and scoring system that they designed went back a lap.The announcers even called it that way. Also when is it ok to take a bike behind the wall under any situation during a race to repair it if the rules say your race is done if you do so. Why is it ok for a AMA official to assist in repairs on a racers bike to get back in a race. If there was only one tire available for DSB where did these other tires come from and why were they not made available before.Dunlop is a great tire and I dont blame them in any way but stop the AMA from controlling the tires.Part of racing is making the rite tire compound. Is the AMA trying to control the outcome of the race ? It makes a person wonder. Having two more boys to bring up in racing and spend the time and $ to get them to the big show and AMA decline the win under their own rules.I simply told them we will put up with it for now till there is another race series to go to. I would support these efforts. Since when did one of the most famous races become a 15 lap sprint race. The 200 is about the bike ,the crew, the pit stops, the riders ability to go the distance. They took all of that and threw it out the door. They are going to turn the last big factory team against them and just go away. Is this what the sport has come to? In my eyes the DMG just bought AMA to destroy them and make more air time for nascar. Thats their real bread and butter. Who wants to watch racing at midnight that really helps the sport.Im going back to mini racing its much simpler.
Please clarify - Are you saying that Dunlop is not at fault for bring tires that didn't work to the race track and that the AMA told Dunlop to run tires that didn't work to control the race outcome?
Super bike has tires to choose from and DSB does not there is more going on than they admit ( DMG ) If the tire could go only 15 laps with almost 30 laps to go than why not continue and have a mandatory pit stop. The riders were playing around with the tire pressures to the point it was 18 lbs in the rear and some not changing the front the whole race.
Do you believe that Dunlop decided the tire sheet or do you think the AMA decides the tire sheet? What do you think is going on that DMG is not admitting too??
That's not standard procedure according to the rulebook. Read it. Neither is stopping a race because of tire issues for some teams. Neither is taking a bike behind the wall to work on it. The fact is, the AMA usurped prescribed procedure several times during the Daytona 200. The house needs some work. Also, too late to do anything about it. Next race is at Infineon. Best idea is to work on winning that.
I think the AMA just has a soft spot in their hearts for twins and motors larger than 600cc's running in the class.
Good grief, seriously? The AMA followed their rulebook as it's written. It's been discussed in several threads. Don't like the AMA rules, fine. But they at least followed them. Sounds like sour grapes that Josh didn't win to me.
So, at what point is a lap completed? Without me reading the rulebook , it seems logical if you cross the start/finish line. I take it that's not the case. The rest was just fubar.
I'll be amazed if you can find in the rulebook where riders running in 6th and 7th on the white flag, then crash on the final lap are placed 13th and 14th.... Maybe do a search for "multiply current position x2 if you're less than 500 ft from the line, x3 if you're over 500ft, but less than 1000 ft from the line, x3.5 if you're....."
They've been trying to make the racing better and they've been trying to be more flexible, but all of the rulebook bending on Saturday drastically affected the outcome of the most significant race of the season, so there are obviously some decisions more significant than others. I'm biased. We were leading the thing and looking good to win when they stopped the thing, but I'm not gonna whine about it. We had absolutely no tire issues. However, we've got to put rider safety first no matter what. The other stuff was just a result of the first decision to stop the race. It's done now.
"1. If a Red Flag is shown when the leaders have completed their 9th lap, but all other riders on the leaders lap have not completed the 9th lap, then the re-grid positions will be determined from the 8th lap and the restart will consist of twelve (12) laps." This is all the info I can find in the AMA rulebook that is close to the situation.
The Latus team was instructed and accompanied behind the pit wall BY THE AMA as to not spill any fluid on the Hot pit lane surface.
I got disqualified for taking my bike behind the wall during the 200 in 2009. We asked and the official told my mechanic to so he would not spill fluids on the pit area while seeing what the problem was. Once we took it back behind the wall another official DQ us. It was blown anyway and I am just a nobody.
2.23 Red Flag Stops and Restart Procedures a. A lap is defined as the completion of a single circuit around the race course as designated by AMA Pro Racing. A lap will only be considered full and complete when it starts and ends at the officially designated Start / Finish line, including passes on pit road. For the first lap of a race, the lap is defined as a full-course circuit completed from the rider’s grid position to the officially designated Start / Finish line, including passes on pit road. b. A Race lap is defined as the last completed lap by the official race leader. Once DiSalvo took the checkered, the race was over...
