I agree with Aaron about showing up at Summit, and I'll take it a step further: Sign up for Summit NOW! I bet WERA could use a few bucks in the kitty now to help offset some of the VIR hit that they took. It makes it easier on the racer, too, to pre-register so you don't have all that financial hit at once. Pay your entry fees now, pay your expenses the weekend of the event. Simple. Oh, I registered for Summit a few weeks ago, so I am already ahead of all you guys on the grid! See ya at Turn One!
Chris, Was great meeting u and the wife. No prob on the track help come up to Summit... There is a practice day Friday so we could get u acclimated there much better... And it will get you out of completing "The List" again! LoL... Ride safe, AAron
It looks like if WERA does not get a certain number of pre entry's then there will be no race weekend. I don't understand canceling the Sundays race just because of low entry's or even weather. I am sure there will more to come on this matter. Boy I do remember the days of 50+ on the grid for the 600 novice class. Those were the days of meat grinding.
There was mention of double points, maybe the people who were signed up get double points at the next round they race? If there is just a double points event - it would screw over the people that were there and reward those who weren't. Just saying
Same deal on the Friday Practice, which is a Roger Lyle day (see my sig line for the URL) Be sure to sign up in advance. That may be the new way the organizers and promoters have to do things, get a certain number of pre-entries or cancel to prevent bankruptcy. I guess the recession is only easing if you happen to own Apple Computer or an oil company.
i see the roger lyle trackday you talking about signing up for and am wanting to sign up . do they have them if it rains ? Thanks
guessing you dont like the rain , i came to race rain or shine its been calling for what we got all week long , i ve never been to a wera race or heard of a wera race canceled because of that little bit of rain , i raced summit before in the rain and rode threw a river at turn five in down poor come on really
Have no problem with the rain. actually like it. I even had a new set of rains mounted & ready to go........ I own a business myself, apparantly you don`t or you could understand.
I'm sure in years past that WERA has had the ability to cover race weekends that are a loss with other weekends that are money makers. Given the fact that WERA is probably starting off in a hole this year they don't have the luxury of having another money making weekend to cover the loss they had already suffered at VIR prior to today.
This will be my last post on this but as a matter a fact i am a business owner for the past 10 years and i know you cant say your going to do something and not do it . people came to race bottom line rain or shine the weather forecast had been the same all week long . If it had not rained they would have had to have the race , the rain was an excuse i dont care how you look at it no more people were coming than what showed up rain or shine .
I understand being upset but i also understand its a business. Look at it this way sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. Today WERA & the racers lost, Mother Nature and the economy won! Simple
I would have been very pissed. I would been out of around $400 is gas for the vehicle alone to drive there and back with the trailer.
right... and those of us who spent a fortune to go get some points at VIR for better grid spots at Summit get the shaft - not rewarded for showing up and sticking it out.
What a mess, for everyone involved.. Hopefully things will get sorted so this isn't an ongoing problem.
There is no question we all lost out this weekend. We were there to race and, yes, it was a lot of money to get there and back home. Not being able to race and get the points sucks. I don't see how a double point weekend will be beneficial to those who showed up at VIR. Unless the points are only rewarded to those who were at VIR, a double-points weekend will reward racers who did not make it to VIR. I hope something to this effect is done to compensate those who paid to get there. For me, it was six hours, though I know it was a lot further for many racers. The only concern I have is will this become a regular thing. It would be difficult to put out the effort and money to get to a track, knowing it could be cancelled due to a low turn out. I feel bad for the vendors who drove many hours to get there, only to just have to drive home. At least if we rode, the tire guys would have sold some rains. I'm sure it was Sean and Evelyne had the worst day out of all of us. That had to be a hard call to make and it sucks there weren't more people there that would have prevented this decision.
I don't disagree with this at all; double-points weekends aren't fair to begin with (imo), but if anyone deserves the double credit when showing up at Summit or any other round it's the folks who made the effort to get to VIR this past weekend. Sorry to read it turned out the way it did; looking forward to seeing everyone @ Summit.
Unless the track management forces them to close the track (snow or lightning, basically) then the day will go forward. I've ridden (coached) some RL days that were pouring rain. I'm going to stop posting about RL track days, because this is a racing forum.
I drove down from NY for the weekend. Yeah it sucks that the races today were cancelled but I know the folks at WERA would not cancel the races unless they absolutely had to. Saturday was a great time, I was the idiot that ran out of gas in the MW solo. Guess you need more than half a tank to finish the race... I had an awesome time and met a lot of great people and look forward to Summit, hopefully with a much larger turnout.
