Those arches are called "Torils" and they are all over the place in Nagasaki. They are entrances to shrines. Sorry.

 

Clearly it's not the same arch, I just thought it was a clever caption.

Plus Nagasaki is in Kyushu, far away from any of the earthquake/ tsunami devostation.

See, they're McDonald's... I'm McDowell's. They got the Golden Arches, mine is the Golden Arcs. They got the Big Mac, I got the Big Mick. We both got two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions, but their buns have sesame seeds. My buns have no seeds.

Regardless if they are the same or not, bottom line is each withstood a horrendous tragedy that has forces beyond belief, and they remained standing.

 

Yeah, I am going to build a house out of those arches.

 

That reminds me of Himeji castle.....the Japanese believe it is a "sacred" castle because during WWII everything around it was destroyed by bomb raids yet the castle stood unscathed.
