I put set on my gs1200 and after few rides I am happy with them. I have not experienced nothing scary and that is with 150 on rear and wife as passenger. No problems dragging pegs. We did some fire roads as well and they are ok at normal pace but move around if I try to go faster.

kawi.jpg After 8 years of sitting in the rain under someone's back deck, today this first-gen KLR650 took its first ride. Good times.

What a shizz-ton of work...rusty fuel tank, the bodywork and tank were painted with at least $3 to $4 worth of black rattlecan, corroded wiring, cracked radiator overflow tank, 14-year-old tires, bent fairing stay, broken levers, rusty wheel spokes, corroded fuses, busted choke lever, mouse nest in the airbox, a leaking Heli-Coiled oil drain bolt that was installed 40 degrees off-center, and the icing on the cake was a cobbled-together license plate light pointing towards the rear shock not the license plate. Like, wow man, you don't need to throw light on the rear shock. What are we even doing here?

I just finished painting the fuel tank this morning, the color came out way too nice for a bike I'll probably drop on an OHV trail somewhere.

Fun fun, another orphan gets rescued.

Once a Wanker.. Always a Wanker!

Smaller 700 to 900cc ADV bikes would likely dominate this class, if they were to allow them in.

I have a 1st-gen KLR gauge cluster that took a WHACK on the BACK of the TACH but the speedo side seems ok. Which is good as it has only 123 miles on the odometer and looks brand new. Because hey, it only had 123 miles on it before somebody whacked the tach on the back hard enough to break the tach glass cover. I don't know the actual history as it came with a box of KLR shizz I bought from a guy. Some rusty footpegs in there and other random KLR stuff you might find useful for your project.

In 2008ish I had the first version of the Conti Trail Attack on my '06 V-Strom 650, what a great tire. I think I got like 14,000 miles out of them before flat-spotting, so many freeway commuter miles.

I have the Continental Trail Attack 3 on my '07 V-Strom 1000 right now, it's an excellent tire, more grip than my diminished riding skills could ever exploit.

The PanAmerica is 150hp and I've seen video of a guy racing one on a HareScramble track with other BIG Adv bikes...it holds it's own shockingly...
This could be an entertaining race..

Looking for opinions/suggestions on a new bike.

I have a WR250R and a Tenere 700, both are great for their intended purposes. My 16 year old son is now joining me and my brother (new CRF450 RL). He’s doing awesome on the WR250, and I just can’t take the T7 everywhere we like to ride, which is spirited dual sport, woods, fire roads.

Thinking about another bike that fits the following:
    - street legal
    - 400cc - 650cc
    - electric start
    - less than 400lbs would be nice
    - less than $5,000 would be great

Looking at DRs, WR450F, etc, but wondering what the collective might suggest? I don’t mind if it’s a bit older, if it’s in decent shape.

If cheap and reliable are at the top of your list - DRZ 400.
If speed and bling are more your kink, any of the solid 350-500 class street legal enduro offerings are rad.
KTM (and all of their subsidiaries) are everywhere for a reason.
    Enjoy riding with your crew!

$5k is possible for a KTM, but you’ll wade through some stinkers to get a decent and loved bike that is 8 years old, or more.

Thanks for the suggestions. The search will continue, but perhaps at a bit slower pace.

I typed my last post above yesterday while waiting in the local Urgent Care Clinic. We were out riding yesterday morning and on a steep rocky climb I tipped over on the T7. Yeah my ankle hurt quite a bit after that and any upshifting was almost impossible. We made it back to the truck in about an hour, I headed to the clinic for an x-ray and the doc said I have a broken femur just above the ankle bone. Wonderful. I had Sidi Adventure boots on, but must have gotten jammed between either the frame or crash bars and a rock. I didn't get pinned under the bike, so it's hard to say exactly what happened. It was very slow speed. But the bike will be parked for a while I guess.

Gives me time to sit on the computer and look for another bike. My wife is beyond thrilled ha ha.

I've got an 09 KTM 450 XCW that I'd part with. I don't ride it anymore since i bought my Beta 300RR Race Edition.

I hope you meant to type Tibula or Fibula and not Femur. Because if they said Femur and Ankle in the same breath, I suggest a 2nd opinion.

    Either way heal up quick.
