Long time viewer; occasional poster here. Not as inspiring as some of the other photos here, though they are great memories with the kids. We're in the first winter after pond construction was completed. We caught this bass in late fall 2023 at a friend's pond and released it in ours well before it was completely full (or the dock/shore line rock/fountain/beach were completed). We stocked it early last year, but this appears to be the largest bass in the pond. My son was gloved up because he believed he had hooked a large catfish. Now we'll need hockey sticks!
It's good, it's just what I wanted as far as the work that has been done already and what is left to do. The heavy lifting has been done, so I can tweak it to my liking. Foot controls are my focus right now.
Wow, the coldest I remember in Illinois was -25F and we went the entire month of January and never got above 0F. As I recall when it is that cold you don’t get snow, it had to warm up for that. Do you have enough snow to enjoy your snowmobile?
I hope your sled is a 2 smoker. I'll be ice fishing this weekend as long as the overnights keep where they are.
-13 here, but do you hear me bitching? No, because if I open my mouth to complain my tongue will freeze.
Yes we have enough snow to ride sleds, and ice, to fish. I have ridden in this cold before, in my younger days. Anymore... not so much. You are not enjoying it, you are riding, just to say you are riding. If it doesnt get to at least 0F, usually we dont venture out. As far as temps and snow, usually it wont snow when it is this cold, however, the great lakes are mostly open still so, any wind at all, creates lake effect, and we may see a little every day, being less than 30 miles from Lake Superior. We are down from where we normally are on snow but, we bought a new bass boat so, I am cheering for winter to end early. Ski
As of 2 weeks ago, the lake and bay around the bridge and the island were open water. And I mean open water, no floating ice, no chunks, no skim ice. That ice bridge season is short enough, without a late start. I know you will but, keep an eye on conditions, dont rely on internet reports, try to talk to the locals, if possible. I do wish you luck, we have never done that trip, even though it is only a few miles over from St. Ignace. Ski
We had a guy ride off the edge of the ice into open water on a local river last week, still haven't found him. Local guy that should have known better, was under a bridge. Somebody walking happend to look down and see the sled in the water.
Colder today, check out the feels like temp. WOW! One of the sister communities up there lost power for over 12 hours yesterday. Many people up there have electric base board heat, and no generators. If you dint heat with wood, or have a generator to run the blower/furnace, your house got cold fast. Ski
Nothing like those temps, but we were without power for ~100 straight hours during the Texas grid failure debacle a couple of years ago. Single digits to teens outside, got down to 38 one night in my bedroom. Memory foam is hard as a rock at that temperature. I had plenty of wood, and plenty of propane to keep the grill running on low in the garage. The fireplace wasn't designed to heat 2800 sf, though. I'm just glad we were prepared as well as we were.
