My birthday is coming up, and I thought I would treat myself to a new ShopVac. It's just for garage use, vacuum the cars, the garage floor..etc. Looking for a wet/dry one that stores the accessories/tips on the unit. Thanks in advance.
I have this one and like it I modified the wheel setup with roller blade office chair wheels so it rolls better on my concrete floor. Added a smooth bore hose as typical shopvac hoses will get heavy with debris over time. Also added the exhaust air diffuser to minimize exhaust air from blowing dust around. Use it most everyday in my shop. Edit: Project Farm on youtube did a comparison that might be worth checking out also
As a contractor I really like the Rigid 4.5 gallon that you carry. Has the 2” hose and powerful. All the attachments store in the vacuum so not falling off or lost. Doesn’t take up a lot of garage space. They have another slightly larger one with wheels if that’s a must.
I have a Dewalt DXV10P - not silent, but vastly quieter than the Craftsman it replaced. Came with a removable attachment bag with it's own frame. The noise difference is a huge help when it is attached to the bandsaw. I wanted another set of attachments - found them new for dirt cheap on eBay, along with a spare vacuum motor and switch from a "Smashed in shipping & returned" outlet. The cordless one also gets used an awful lot...
I have the same unit as @GRH. It’s the 2nd one I’ve had, as an ex has the first one. Outstanding performance.
I've got a similar Craftsman model - going strong for over 20 years. Where did you get the upgraded hose? The stiff plastic one that came with my vacuum needs to go.
The ex or GRH's unit? I have a Ridgid that I grabbed during some crazy markdown sale out my local HD. Keep the filter clean and it's worked great hooked up to a miter saw, belt sander, soaked car interior when the top gets left down... Grab an accessory set with a longer smooth-bore hose and some other attachments and you'll be set for car interior duty.
I just have 4 or 5 of the Rigid whatever's from Home Depot. Simple and effective for what we do. I do keep one at home for the cars and I bought one of the Rigid car vacuum kits. I've had it for a while and it works really well.
I need a new shop vac as well and watched "Project Farm" on YT for a comparison between Craftsman, Dewalt, rigid, bauer (HF), Hart (walmart) and Stanley. He tested which had the highest suction, fastest speed to suck up 5 gal of water and 5 gal of sand, noise, capacity, and a grudge match between 2 machines where he hooks up the hoses to one another and see which one sucks the air out of the other one. Craftsman was the overall pic.
I went with the Rigid 16 gallon stainless steel model and also added two of the "upgraded" hoses and those are worth every penny. I've had the thing for 8 years and the only complaint I have is that if you fill it with water from your basement floor it's F*N HEAVY
Rigid has lifetime warranty, make sure u register it when u buy it I've used the big ones at work for many years. Ran soap foam through the motors and they kept on going Tough vacs
I had an unfortunate situation today where my washing machine flooded my house. The rigid shop vacuum sucked up 15 gallon in 15 minutes. If your vacuuming liquid take the filter out
The same company in the amazon link I provided sells 1.5" versions also https://www.amazon.com/Mr-Nozzle-Cr...ttachments/dp/B0C6FNGRLN?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1
He's a great reviewer and tester of loads of things. It's one of the first places I go to for decent reviews.
I keep a wall mount version around as well. Small stuff doesn't need me rolling out the big one. Amazon.com: Shop-Vac 2.5 Gallon 2.5 Peak HP Wet/Dry Vacuum, Portable Compact Shop Vacuum with Collapsible Handle Wall Bracket & Multifunctional Attachments for Home, Jobsite. 2036000 : Industrial & Scientific The only thing I don't like about them is the disposable built to fail nature of them. Bushings where bearings should be. I pull them apart and put sealed bearings in the small once I am out of the warranty window.
