The drones on optical cable reminds me of the plane I had a as kid with the tiny motor that ran on fuel but the plane was attached to a cord and could only go in circles around you.

 

Ran on fuel? Your parents must be rich.* Mine was powered by a rubber band that was stretched and you rotated the propeller in reverse about a thousand times then let go.

We did our cord in a straight line so me and my friends could "drag race" each other.

Pretty sure I still have a Cox Black Widow engine in a bin out in the garage. I wonder what some of that old stuff is worth these days. Old Futaba radios, air and land, old O.S. and Cox engines, etc.

 

What was the fuel those things used? I know it was some pretty wicked stuff.

 

Like 10% nitromethane and the rest methanol and oil.

Love the smell!

 

A mix of methanol, nitro methane and castor oil.

You could convert to "diesel" but that was oil, ether and kerosene.
