Yes in deed. His daughter took it very hard, her Dad was her hero.
He left a lengthy dear daughter to her, but that still dosent change things.
He had a lot of inner demons he was struggling with, and had been on top of the world and lost it all.
The past couple yrs had been really bad though, with the last few months were just too much.
He had it planned, went out with a five gal can of vp fuel in the cockpit with him.
    Really sad all around.

Devil's advocate, but I know that there are at least a couple of guys on this forum that wish they had that choice in their hands.

It's documented that he had prostate cancer... That's going to happen to every man if he lives long enough. What we don't know is the stage/metastasis/prognosis.

Don't judge without walking a mile in his shoes.

After watching my dad spend years fading away, I would never presume to second guess someone deciding to check out while the choice was still theirs.
As an aside, if my death involves a vintage vehicle, it was an accident. I sincerely hope someone will enjoy my Mach 1 on a mountain road long after I'm gone. If they can spare a moment to think about me while they do it, so much the better.

Some of us value longevity. Others are more than willing to check out on our own terms.

Theres a lot of airplane crashes with 70 yr old pilots. I think a good number of them are intentional.

My dad was no longer there mentally. The thought of ending up in that state terrifies me. To be fair, he was not unhappy.

I’ve been thinking about this a lot, and wondering, maybe the cancer was so bad (prostate right) maybe it was going to take a toll in his ability to physically sit in a race car and those aren’t always the most comfy seats.

I imagine that he decided that he was gonna go on his own terms as I’m sure we can all relate to someone that’s had that and from what I hear his was one of the worst (I’m not a cancer expert but my grandfather batttled prostate most of my adult life until his passing)

Just saying, I know that I would have long talks with myself if I were unable to do what makes me happy and in his case I believe his success was pretty well known….

    sucks though no matter what.
