Quick update on me..

Update to the update. I have radiation consult on Monday. Oncology consult on Tuesday, MRI of brain Thursday(good luck even finding my brain) and a full body PET scan next Wednesday. Hope I can start treatment the first week of Dec.

 

Ask some of my exes and they say it has already fallen off. Thanks for the

NOVEMBER 18th UPDATE: So, Gary saw the medical oncologist today. It was A TON of information! I will try to cover the main points. It's VERY difficult for these doctors to be able to give firm, decisive information to us due to the fact that Gary has not been able to have the scans done yet that the doctors desperately need. However, they are coming soon! Gary has to have an MRI of his brain, which will happen on Thursday and he has to have a full body PET scan which he will get on Monday, sooner if they have any cancelations at the ONE location that has a PET scan machine in Gaston County! Today, his doctor recommended that Gary get a second opinion. Not because they don't know what it is but so that, perhaps, a doctor that has more experience with this cancer can have a chance to look at it. This cancer is rare in and of itself. It would be made even more rare if it actually developed in the parotid gland where it was found but that is what we are hoping for! If that IS the case, it only happens in approximately HALF OF A PERCENT of this type cancer. That is the reason they need the full body PET scan. This cancer usually moves from another part of the body TO the parotid and it most often moves from the lungs. There are also cases that have moved from the urinary tract and adrenal glands. The PET scan will tell them if it metastisized or if it's EXTREMELY RARE. The MRI of the brain is needed to ensure the cancer did not move into his brain. In addition to dealing with all of this, he was told he had to have dental clearance for radiation due to the radiation being on his jawline area which will weaken the bones of the mandible which is what teeth attach to. At that clearance, they told Gary he is going to have to have two of his bottom, front teeth removed and get a bridge. The total cost of all of that will be $3500. Chemo is now FIRMLY on the table as well. The radiation doctor mentioned that a feeding tube may become necessary during treatment due to the inability to swallow from radiation burns and such. Gary has a pretty rough road ahead of him but we are remaining hopeful!

 

Sorry to hear about the challenges Gary.....keep swinging with your chin UP sir!!!.....the alternative is unacceptable!

Some good news!!! MRI is clear , it didn't spread to my brain. PET scan on Monday and praying that it's clear too. Treatment will still be tough and not fun but I don't have to worry about being stupider than I am already. Thank you all for the well wishes and prayers.

PET scan UPDATE!!!! The results got back at 2:20 but waited to post as I had to take some time to reflect. The scan results say there is no other cancer in me , not metastisized. Where it presented is where it originated which makes me a member of the 1% or less club because this type normally starts elsewhere. I will still have treatment , chemo and radiation, I have to see the neuroendocrine specialist at Levine in Charlotte. Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers!!!!
