The point was that they have support/repairs on site. I mean honestly....a few pounds for leather versus roo in a suit for a 300Hp motorcycle isn't the deal breaker. The bike has to meet a minimum weight requirement for total weight. But, where the weight is and how it's distributed has way more impact. I mean I think you're question was interesting, but I also think you're focusing on something that doesn't matter THAT much. Case in point, do you think Honda gives two shits about that 5-10 pounds on a suit MM93 has on if it works and keeps him on the bike and in the hunt for a World Championship, or do they skimp every possible ounce in his suit and compromise his season then watch Stephan Bradle get 18th places on their Repsol bike for the rest of the season?
Ya, I don't agree with your assertions. 10 lbs up high, moving all over the place, upsetting geometry and suspension, ping-ponging the COG front to back, sounds like a worst case scenario to me. Especially when you consider what the riders have to go thru with their physical training to keep their weight to an absolute minimum. It just seems odd to me that aside from the airbag tech, hide suits have been used all this time (60 years?) and nothing better has been developed.
