Too many walls and not enough run off EVERYWHERE at Road America. Do a lap in your head and tell me where there isn't a wall too close to run the big boys
If I recall correctly, wasn't Barber one of the venues that was being considered to replace the Miller round a few years back?
I saw the proposed track map several years ago. The trees in that T1/T2 area were going to be removed, and the front straight would double in length. Then turn left and straighten out for a bit, then lead into a long right handed carousel with another short straight that ultimately merged back into the hill at T4. Imagine GP bikes hitting T4 while flat out in 4th gear.
I was about to argue with you, but as I ran the lap in my head in more detail you're definitely not wrong... It's not awful, and most of the walls aren't in places that a normal crash or run off would happen, but there's definitely a lot of them in places where if something weird happens someone could run into one...
Lol. Small as fuk. No garages etc etc. Fun track but gets the attention it does because of the awesome museum and nice grounds.
Big Willow would be assume. If thy about 5mil into...you know....facilities. The awsomenss of a current WSBK going thru T8 at speed makes my jeans a size too small...never happen though And they have all those socal squids to sell tix too....sigh.....
Yes. "Boles told the Indianapolis Star that attendance of this year’s MotoGP race (2015) was the highest it’s been in four years—145,558 for all three days, with 67,648 on Sunday—but even then, the track could not guarantee a financial success for 2016."
I went to Laguna in 2016 and 2017 and it was great but the crowd was definitely much smaller in 17 by my estimation at least. Yeah you could do it in Austin but... Who wants to go to Texas?
After the way Monterey treated fans for years I am not surprised. We went down for 5 years in a row, every year the hotel went up hundreds, the cops were dicks about lane sharing coming into the track, down town acted like we were lucky they let us in. So we said fuck CA went to Indy and Miller. I wish Indy was still on the MOTO GP schedule, the experience there was opposite of what we experienced at Laguna.
It was a logistical nightmare because once Laguna dropped off of the calendar, they we're flying to the states for one race smack in between the European rounds. The sanctioning fees for MotoGP are also just a wee bit higher than they are for WSBK. If Dorna is flying everyone over for one WSBK round in the US anyways, they might even save a little bit of money by not having to fly all the way out to California. It's obviously not that simple, but I can't come up with any reason why Indy wouldn't be a suitable alternative.
I went down in Canada corner and damn near made it to the wall. Turn 5 would also be a problem IMO. Thing is, it wouldn't take much to push back a lot of those walls. There's plenty of land and it wouldn't require relocating stands because there aren't any there to begin with
