My tz is a reverse cylinder 1989. I just sold my 1990 fzr 600. My tz was waaay faster than that old 600 of about the same year. Both bikes are mostly unmodified. Motion, I know you used to have TZs, you know you want another. Come on! I also think the TZ250s are a good deal for what they are. It seems to me the value leveled out and the parts availability is still good. They are also faster than the street version yamaha, honda, aprilla by a wide margin but no more expensive.
A must ride list? Or is that a dream list? Many on there are highly unlikely to come across unless you have a friend that is an avid collector & likes to ride the collection.
odd...go to any dragstrip...VAST majority are ZX14 or Busa. If LITER (not leader) bikes smoked them...that's all you'd see doing the 1320.
I had one of these for a few years. It was good, but I had an 09 and the chassis got a lot better in '11. The engine/gearbox was super agricultural though. Couldn't shift from first to second mid wheelie to save my life. That's what I hated most about that bike which should say a lot about its character lol. I'd love a go on the 'new' 1200 Speed Triple.
He probably meant stock for stock. But I'm sure the drag racers are modifying the hell outta these things and 30% displacement advantage is pretty tough to overcome if they're allowed in the same class.
I'm simply pointing out what is at the dragstrip...anywhere. Even stock / stock...those short wheelbase liter bikes get waxed by the 14 or busa...
Ok, I can’t be the only one who sees this thread title keep popping up and thinking it’s a non-negotiable in a singles ad.
The trans was so terrible, and the weight trail braking into turns compared to an R6 was pretty noticeable. I miss mine though, sometimes I wonder what happened to it after I sold it. I wouldn't mind having it back. I loved looking at it and the exhaust tone with a Mivv.
if you can swing it, a Kramer (ktm) 890. I'll never have another bike as cool as this one. just felt special. a purpose built track/race bike is just a cool thing. i used to just sit in the garage and stare at it.
Well at that time he ran low 27’s at Willow and had the SV classes track record at a 27.1. He beat plenty of TZ and RS250’s around that time. Granted, like I said, they weren’t Rich Oliver…..they were old f..ks like you. it wasn’t just that track either, same at Vegas, Fontana, and Chuckwalla.
Honda RS250 at full song is a blast .... it will laugh at you when you step off it saying " That's all you got ! "
I think they're a great deal... I sold most of my 4DPs and 4TWs in the $12K range a couple years ago at the peak.
Maybe that’s the bike you buy two of for us to race? It will be a lot more work versus hopping on a Kramer or a ninja 400 from a tuning perspective
I raced a season on one of Rocky's 94" Honda Rs 250's. Best racing ever for me,and the 250 field was still active. Zero engine braking, and deep into corners with that thing! I also got to ride his reverse cylinder tzr 250.Beautiful sounding bike! He also bought a ROC YZR500,and got it home somehow. Carbon /Carbon brakes, which was fancy!! It became my mission in life just to talk him into one F1 race on a wera weekend. Wife gave me an ultimatum, quit or sign divorce papers. Hindsight, should have hit that bitch in the head with an ink pen! RGV's are a hoot, and spent a session on one of Kurt Hall's /Hall's and Stihls built gsxr 1100's at Road Atlanta before they shaved the hill, and gravity cavity All fzr 400's best bang for the buck back in the day!! I really enjoyed my 07 Repsol 1k for mtn. riding. It did everything great! I owned one TM 25o,exotic,but shitty cases. My favorite all time dirty bike would be the KTM 200.Great woods bike for me And for you TZ enthusiasts, there were several at my last race at Willow Springs last year.4,or 5? And one ate shit pretty hard in morning practice. They are still out there, but getting harder to find. And lastly..never rode one,but want an RC 30!! A friend tried to sell me his for 8k back in the 90's,and I bought another fzr 400 instead! Im still kicking myself!
