Having visited Austin for the first time last weekend, I am pretty surprised how much of it is a sh*t hole. I heard it was supposed to be a growing nice area.
I just moved out of the Austin area to outside of a small town east of the city because of all of the negative associated with the growth. Austin used to be much nicer.
Austin has the potential to be a wonderful area but would need some pretty drastic deportations (and I am not speaking of just illegal immigrants) to get it there ....
Nah man, it needs more NYers and Californians. More hairs of blue, more progressives, more defund the cops, more here are my pronouns, more more more. It's high-larious that Texas has this problem.
That’s where my Uncle and Aunt lived. Had a small farm and small Mom/Pop’s store/gas. Both gone now. My Dad’s family is originally from Sherman.
You couldn't pay me enough to move to Austin...find a small town east or west of there and your probably fine.
I know a number of people who grew up there and loved the whole Weird Austin thing, some probably even had a hand in it becoming that - and none will move back right now
That's just it...it ain't weird no more it's just bad I avoided even driving through Austin last May headed to hill country. Now Marble Falls is a cool town I wouldn't mind living in.
I'm a Texan and we moved to this sh#thole of a state- WI, about 15 years ago. My first degree was from UT Austin, and my third degree was from UTMB in Galveston. My wife doesn't want to b/c my kids get some monies for being on the autism Spectrum, etc. They're now in there early 20's though. I want to move back.
Last time I was in Austin was more than 20 years ago, and the traffic was horrible. I can't imagine how bad it is now. Also, what's the deal with Texas road designers? They love to have a freeway, with a parallel frontage road beside it that has entrances to businesses. You come off the freeway at 80 mph onto the frontage road then might have to bang downshifts and hit your brake markers just to make a 90-degree turn into a parking lot.
And coming out of those parking lots can be like a race launch to not get clobbered by the cars on the frontage. Actually, I have learned to like the frontage road concept because it keeps traffic moving but it can be hairy at times.
After being stuck in places where your only options are non-stop mazes with traffic lights...I live that TX setup. It's much faster to get places when I can hop on the freeway and then just get off at my exit instead of working my way through a million traffic lights.
