Didn't Dorna amend the rules to allow him to compete in Moto3, or am I mixing him up with someone else? Like you said, he was already alien material then lost his way a bit, but at least he came back around unlike the Maverick's of the world.
I think that may have been when they made the role that you don't have to be 16 to get to Moto 3 if you win the CEV.
Just a thought, but perhaps Dennis Foggia might get the boot out of MotoGP at the end of the year. There’s no short supply of Europeans to throw on a Moto3 bike and he’s clearly not on the podium regularly as Aspar likely expected. Maybe he could find a place in WSS? Maybe a MotoAmerica team could scoop him up for NGSS?
"Might?" I don't see how he can salvage that shipwreck of a GP career at this point. I think he's going to be on Michelins next year.
Sergio Garcia’s replacement at the MSI Helmets Moto2 team is announced as Eric Fernandez. He is the 2024 CEV NGSS champion and is racing this yeah in the Junior GP Moto2 team run by Hector Faubel. He just had his first podium of the year at Estoril 2 -ish weeks ago. Other pluses that made the choice easy is that he’s on a Boscoscuro in JuniorGP also, so very little adaptation needed.
I thought about that, but decided to leave Dani Pedrosa out of consideration because technically he is retired….
I know you already said you just forgot Alex but not giving Mav at least the outside chance category, maybe even consideration, is borderline criminal. Dude is a headcase for sure but if we're talking skill & talent, I think there's an argument to be made for as high as 3rd behind Marc & Fabio. When he's on, he's an animal.
Pretty sure the same could be said for a lot of people. I'm not sure I can recall another rider in the 30-ish years I've followed the sport that was as hyped as Fabio before he ever even hit the GP paddock. Maybe Gobert? But that's stretching the extent of my mempry.
I usually don't watch racing at that level. There are only so many hours in a weekend. But when they start showing CEV on a regular TV here because of just one kid, I have to pay attention.
I get that, but the inconsistency is the major detail. My hypothetical is imagining all riders on equal machinery, including not having x number of years prior experience in said machinery, so it’s truly level in equipment. Who are the top five finishers that season? Mac could even win a race in that hypothetical season, but he’s also likely to have a few 16th place finishes because that morning’s oatmeal didn’t have blueberries.
Seeing Foggia this past weekend had me puzzled. The guy has to be 27 years older than the average Moto3 rider?
Putting it here cause why not. Liberty Media has been approved by the European Commission to purchase the majority shares of Dorna.
Roberts signs for another year. https://www.motoamerica.com/joe-roberts-signs-new-deal-with-american-racing-team-for-moto2/
Dorna has weighed in and said Martin won’t be racing for another brand in 26 unless he gets released by Aprilla or he finds a court that legally releases him from his contract. Don’t recall Dorna getting involved like that before.
That was reported during the race and multiple times since. It's everywhere. Conceptually, it's not all that different from saying you can't bring in Ben Spies on a factory team.
