The desert has incredible beauty. Just my opinion. But I live in it, and have always lived in it. (So Cal to now northern AZ)

 

Just wait till August, when it's 120+
I grew up in San Diego, and the Borrego desert is amazing in February & March after the rains.

 

You're kidding, right? I've lived in the Midwest my whole life, and as much as I don't like high heat, -27 without winds is no fun either. The SW in the winter is awesome for me. Of course I'm a geology nerd, so YMMV

 

Lots of rocks out there to gawk at!

Over here in Iowa they collect the rocks and put em in a corner of the farm so they dont break the tractor

 

We hiked Sedona today, are in flagstaff tonight and head to the canyon tomorrow. I envy your hike and would love to see it from the bottom but not in the cards this trip. I can promise you, after this I’ll be back. Snowbowl is calling me.

 

Only here until the 6th. We have enjoyed highs in the 80s daily due to the tropical storm and now in flagstaff it’s 60s going down into the 40s tonight.

The canyon is gonna blow your mind. I was prepared for the Chevy Chase Vacation scene. I could've spent a week there.

Does flying a helicopter into the bottom of it and getting out when in Vegas count? I’m excited to see it from the top.

 

Absolutely not. Plus I wouldn't trust ANY of those tour operators. I have no issue with risking my life at MY hand, but not because someone forgot to do maintenance on the helo you're riding in.

 

Where did you end up hiking in Sedona?

 

Quite a few of those rocks are geodes too...have you seen the new systems the farmers are using for rock removal? They hire a company that comes out with a drone that can actually map all of the rocks in the field (even if they're not on the surface). Then they go out there with a special skidloader with this belted thing on the front that grabs the rock and flips it into the bucket. Crazy efficient.

 

Regarding the desert vibes. I noticed old Willow Springs images show green grass and plants in the infield, but I can’t remember the last time they’ve been back. The pictures with the greenery look so much more inviting if bigger events were to happen there again. Not sure how/if they could bring it back.
Maybe it’s global….. wait, what do flat earthers say? Plate-warming?

 

Snowbowl won't compare to any of the real mountains you've boarded, but, it's better than big bear in socal. .

However, I am beyond stoked you are enjoying what you see, the desert southwest is incredible! Flagstaff and Sedona are both so incredible, come and stay and enjoy. The Grand canyon is going to warp your reality when you see it in person. Much like Sedona, pictures do not do it justice!

A couple of the farmers I watch on Utube are using those guys. Beats the old way, I've walked miles and miles in front of a tractor with a loader on it picking rocks. That job sucks.
