No Twins, but it will be cool to watch the Talent Cup bikes drafting their brains out. Kaleb De Keyrel is riding the Top Pro BMW STK1000 as a wildcard. Tested the bike at Homestead last weekend. Go Kaleb!
Not trying to sound bitchy but I don't understand this from a scheduling perspective. Why bring the little bikes to the big track? The dangers of pack racing are well documented at this point. Long term, learning the pack drafting game is a very niche skill to have (really only seems to apply to big bikes at Daytona). Surely that much time spent WFO means those engines are taking more abuse there than any other bikes at any other track (except Daytona of course). I just don't understand the logic. Seems twins make more sense here and maybe swap them out with Talent Cup at a different track.
Posted elsewhere, but relevant to the cheap SOB's who haven't ponied up and paid the $100.00 to support MA's broadcast: https://www.motoamerica.com/motoame...k-and-the-nbc-sports-now-channel-this-season/
Wife and I are here volunteering again. I’m a “tire control marshal”. Whatever that is. I plan to control tires to the best of my ability! We bought tickets and stuff before we volunteered, so I have some free tickets if anybody wants them. The logistics of picking them up can be hard since I work all day, but pm and maybe we can figure something out.
I think pack drafting and manuevering is a pretty vital skill for Moto3 and rookies cup. Just watch a single race.
I meant at the levels where they’re actually getting paid to race (hypothetically). Pack drafting is only really useful at the feeder levels. My personal opinion is also that the real standout talents don’t necessarily need it anyways. Guys like Acosta or Alonso just found ways to constantly stay in front, regardless of what everyone else did in the draft. Or Zarco who would just sit in 5th or 6th til the last 3 laps and then carve up the field.
Well, my hotel is roughly 40 min from track. last night start seeing baggers start rolling in. Harley’s and Indians. not a single Sportbike in the parking lot. very interesting shift and sight that’s not Sturgis or Bike Week. obv Harley is based here but it’s pretty cool that folks ride their baggers to bagger races and are in town even for Prac/qual. how do we keep that ball rolling into other classes? It really is a “Lifestyle” Might get Wyman and HogSpoli to sign my tits.
I have seen an uptick of the cruisers around my house as well. Which is odd because every weekend turns into a HOG parade around me. Having it start early caught my attention.
Fast bike, but that asphalt is in the beginning of it’s third season and should be prime for lap records too. Tracks seem like they’re at their fastest in their 2nd and 3rd years after a full repave. It also being in the 60s should help too. Would love to see a Superbike in the 2:08s. That would be a sub 2:00 lap without the kink chicane.
I was thinking that. You have to figure a lot of guys who I think of as sport bike guys are in their late 40s / 50s and beyond now.
Surprising to me that Schultz is 1.4 seconds ahead of second and Beaubier is almost 1 second over second place.
MotoA Live+ interviews begin...Loris Baz on his Indian "make a bike thats not supposed to be on the track as fast as it can go"
