With 5 bikes, there isn't. Your best best is to consolidate your arsenal into 2 bikes that you can race multiple classes on (SV650 and/or a C class bike) and have at it. Travel light and minimize your costs where you can but never sacrifice or skimp on safety.
I destroyed an R6 at Nelson ledges. The only useable parts after that weekend were the engine and the frame. Never race on credit and be ready to throw your entire bike in a dumpster at any given moment.
I mean even if there is $20 here and $50 there to be made, what do you even do with that information? It’s such little money that it shouldn’t even factor into your decisions in the slightest. You’ll reduce your spending by 1000x any potential prize money just by carefully designing your race program, setting the right goals, being judicious with what equipment you buy etc. I’m not doing any motorcycle racing or even track days at the moment. I’m racing dirty pedal bikes (MTB and gravel) and all the above holds true. I’d even say you might get more prize money in MTB races than club racing motorcycles…. Even if you start on a Strider at 2 and you’re top 1% talented, the vagaries of life and poor racing infrastructure in the US mean you still have a slim ass chance of being a pro at 18. And if you want a better chance at it…. Motocross is where the money’s at not road.
I got some sweet contingency and a free meal when I won Modern Open in the Mexican 1000. ROI still is a little south of in the black.
Forget making money and hone your skills. As a PN or even a novice you are not going to make any money that's noticeable. Read the contingency break out and when you qualify as an expert and start to win consistently in your classes tailor your racing around companies that pay out. Don't take a shotgun approach and show up with 4 or 5 bikes, bring bikes that you can finish top 3 in class with. At that point start hustling and selling yourself to sponsors YOU created (your local lawn servicing company, the local bait shop, the local auto paint shop, etc). People who you can sell on your bringing a substantial return on this time and money to. Might be all and good that you're a good dude or you have 200 followers on instagram but what are you going to do to pay them back? Is there money is racing? Nothing like there was in the late 80s/ 90s and into the very early 2000s. You need to create your own sources of revenue while standing out amongst the other racers who may be better and are hitting up the same people and not just motorcycle racers but the local kart kids, the dirt track car guys and even the drag racers. Final word to be brutal and cold? Forget about money, you ain't making any, not for a few years at best.
Buy a tire changer, try to undercut the vendor. Probably the quickest way to make money... for a few hours or less.
I appreciate the honesty. Also, I do not track 5 bikes, sorry for the misconception. I have 2 track bikes and 3 street bikes. Still a lot to keep up with.
He asked about making money not waking up rolled up in a carpet in a ditch with a note pinned to you saying "next time we toss you off a bridge."
It’s hard to completely scratch off. I’ve raced something on and off since about 1980. Drag racing, RC car racing, go karts, road racing, then my kid in road racing. Now I bought a 250 Superkart and a drag bike to play with. Plus I have a mini I want to at least track day at go kart tracks and I’ve been getting the itch to finally ride a motorcycle at a big track again. Then I still want to get another good dirt bike, but I’ve never raced those. Only takes time and money, which I don’t seem to have enough of either these days. Lololol
