What a difference in these two pics. The first is the day Max came home with us (2019) from the shelter, and the second is after he transformed into badass Mad Max (2023)! He was 1 in the first pic; 5 in the second one. Adopt; don’t shop! Loads of shelter dogs need you!
He has that “think I’ll take a dump then fight a bear and when I’m done there better be food in ma’ bowl or you’re getting f’ed the f up, hooman” Look on his face.
Another thing you can do, especially you guys who live in southern states is to discourage anyone you know from playing amateur breeder, especially if they're breeding pit bulls. I'm in NH and my sister (and my mother when she was alive) has dedicated decades to working at a large shelter that tries its best to not euthanize dogs, but when you go in there two-thirds of the dogs are pit bulls. They get a lot of them locally, but they also get truckloads of dogs from down south, often nothing but more pit bulls. It's like they grow on trees in the southern states.
The shelter we volunteer at has had a few pit mixes come through. They all have had sad stories. They’ve also been some of the most gentle, sweetest dogs we’ve had. They know when they’ve landed in a hood place where people will live on them.
I've never been around a pit that was anything but sweet. There are no bad dogs, only bad owners. The breed has a bad rap from ghetto gang bangers training them to fight.
All three of our pups are rescues. One from shelter, one found in the woods mtn biking, and one showed up here and adopted us. All great dogs.
It would be great if everyone would adopt from a shelter instead of buying from a breeder. Kudos to you for saving 3 lives.
Agree 100%, adopt em. Shelter is full of great dogs, we foster as much as possible also. This guy has been with us over 5 years now.
Unfortunately, the Amish view dogs as livestock and run the large scale puppy mills especially around Lancaster, PA. Just Google‘Amish puppy mills’ for more information on this disgusting practice.
