It's because people here are usually logical and know lowering the number will do nothing for those people losing their loved ones.

Making it .08 was a joke, it was all about politics and states not wanting to lose federal money for construction. Did it make us safer?? Did it make us safer when they used the same tactic to get states to adopt 55 mph speed limits?? This shit is a perfect example of our country being fucked up, people accept it even though it makes no sense logically.

The vast majority of drunken driving accidents and fatalities are well above .08, very few are between .05 and .08. Probably because .05 isn't impaired for most people. Depending on the person, .05 can be two beers, do you really think that's dangerous?

R1, like I said before, tell a victim's family of a DUI crash it was only .05-08 and see how it works out for you. Is lowering the level a way to get more $$$ from the people who get stopped with the possible .05 and up? Absolutely. Dont like it? Don't drink and drive...what's so hard to explain about that...

I think it's more they found out how much money they made off of the .08 limit they now want more cash.

Tell any family about a loved one being killed over anything and see how that goes. That's a stupid illogical point to try and make a point. It doesn't matter what takes a person's life it will never be ok to the family. Look at gang violence we all sit back and see it your telling me people aren't upset after that, but we can all look back and say they shouldn't have been gang banging go tell that to their family and see how that goes.

The average BAC of a DUI driver in a fatality is .15, 3 times the proposed new limit and nearly double the current. It is very doubtful lowering the limit will actually do anything other than generate money.

Tell that to the family of the man killed by an empty beer can thrown from a vehicle in a high speed chase.

Jeez, no sympathy for the victims at all.

Illogical to debate the actual topic of the thread and you're talking about gang violence...really... Lets talk about why tires are black and not white because I think there's an undertone of discrimination there. Do you agree that grass should be cut with a mower or scissors...since we're talking about oil drilling....

No sure how people still think the 'perfect law' can even exist where a threshold is given by an opinion.....

Do we need laws and penalties against drunk driving? - Yes.

Will lowering the limit from .08 to .05 make driving any safer? - Unlikely

Will lowering the limit from .08 to .05 make much difference in the policing and to the average Joe the dirver? - Unlikely.

Is this pure political BS? -.....

All due respect... DUI would be low on my moving violation scale concern. You have fellow motorcyclists getting run off the road and being killed by inattentive & distracted drivers who are stone sober.

Rather than this bullshit I'd feel safer if they passed a law that cell phones quit working when moving more than a few mph. That would actually cut down on accidents.

Except for passengers in the car. Why shouldn't they be able to use a phone?

There are way better places for the regulators to focus their attention if safety was truly the goal. This is nothing more than using emotion to increase revenue.

Get real. The penalties are strict in an effort to convince people that driving while drinking is a bad move. It's not a money making effort by law enforcement at all. I do not know of any state where you can get hammered, stopped, ticketed and then allowed to continue to drive home. They arrest your ass and you land in front of a judge. Driving drunk needs to result in the driver losing his license until he/she grows up mentally.
