Make licenses harder to get. But that will never happen. What pisses me off the most is the MADD people usually suck at driving. Like getting killed by a sober shitty driver is somehow better than getting killed by a drink...

If you have a CDL, your legal limit would then be .025.

A gal I know got pulled here a couple of years back and cited for DUI. It took something like $20K in fines, court-required substance-abuse classes and legal fees to get her license back. Funny thing is, she doesn't even drink.

I dunno - drunks on the road are a bad thing for sure, but it seems like we have bigger issues to spend lots of time and money on than creating a new class of criminals that did not previously exist or who can be attributed to any specific problem.

No...No...No...You have to feed the government machine. It's for your own protection. Just ask them. They'll tell you.

I dont get why States dont have a "driving simulator" where each driver can qualify just like pilots do. Then weaknesses can be addressed and drivers can be trained properly. Insurance companies should love something like that! Pro Consumer advocates should love it too! Car insurance companies sure have lots of advertising monies!

Lots of people can drive reasonably well if they're focused and paying attention. I don't think the simulator would show an accurate depiction of their real wold driving.

Id agree with everyone on the standards needing to be upped. Hell, Maryland just dropped the parallel parking test requirement from the practical exam.

I'm having a hard time believing any of you all are actually against stricter impairment laws that would keep you and your loved ones safe. Just because you know a friend of a friend who is a functioning alcoholic that can still walk a straight line and says they are competent to drive is a joke... Tell the families of the people whose fatal accidents I respond to, 'they were only XX over/under the legal limit, no big deal'. Since you can't do that, speak to anyone who's family has died from alcohol related crash. A lot of BS being spewed more than usual in here....

Strict DUI laws do nothing for the problem though, they are a source of revenue and that's about all. They force you to pay upwards of $10k for having a beer and driving home and people still do it. The real shit heads that get hammered and drive can't pay the fines and they will still drive home. People want to make laws based on emotion and the cities and lawyers are just there to pick up the cash that gets raked in.

What kind of beer are you drinking? Most of your national brand beers (Coors Light, Bud, Miller, etc) are around .02-.025% BAC. A healthy 180 lb male's liver will clean out .02% BAC/hr. But that also depends on your emotional state, stomach contents, and your liver health. That's why PBT is done last so that there is less of a chance of residual mouth alcohol because if you took a sip of a beer or a mixed drink and then 5 mins later blew into a PBT, you would have a very high number.

If you are a US citizen traveling to Canada via motor vehicle and have been convicted of DWI, you are not allowed to drive in Canada

In New York if you have a CDL, the limit is .04, doesn't matter if you are driving your personal vehicle or on the job.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure those rules are federal and it's only .04 if you're operating a CMV. Maybe the states have stricter laws but I've never heard of that.
