If you're just 15 years old and have no street riding experience you would be best off (for a lot of reasons) with a 2-stroke 125. Look over in the classified section, you'll find a few there, also check the 2-stroke forum. I don't know your riding ability, so I'll give you general advice. You don't want a 600. Forget about it. I know the temptation is there, and you probably have succumbed to the lure of the machinery, but you are not ready for them. You'll be there in a few years if you like racing and learn enough. An SV is also more than you need to get started. A 2 stroke will teach you how to go fast without punishing your wallet or your body. Many, many, world class riders have started out this way. Take a look at the guys that are your age or just a bit younger who started in USGPRU or WERA 2 stroke racing - some of them are the stars of tomorrow. Here are a few benefits that I see of a 125: - You have a 2 stroke dirt bike, so maintenance should not be completely foreign to you. - 125's are easy on tires compared to IL4 600's and twins, so you won't kill your pocketbook buying tires. - The bikes are cheap, so are parts. Both are readily available. - You'll learn how to get the most out of a bike that does not have overwhelming power. In the end, you'll be faster when you move up to IL4's or a twin. I hope the 2 strokers lurking will chime in with their thoughts.
oh well screw that idea...I went to check on my job today and the owner told me to come back around December...this blows...I can't find a job... oh yeah and well see i wanted a 600 for the street because I was thinking about taking the Motorcycle Safety Foundation class and getting my license early and I get a discount on insurance...which at my age I'll definately need. but i really was looking at a 600 mostly becuse my dad used to ride street bikes he had brand new CBR 600 it was red and he used to ride me on that thing when i was like 1 year old...and i didnt want to get off and id still like to get one and let him ride it before he wont want to get on any of the crotch rockets again...I saw those Aprilia RS 125s and I like the look of them but i want something that can be converted from street legal to race ready with as few adjustments as possible...I'll be fine on it...I probably wont get on there my first time trying to hit 150 MPH but just to get on there and ride it would be enough for me...hope i can get one someday but as of right now I cannot find a job anywhere...
don't waste your time riding the street. its too tame, even if you're breaking the law a bit. if you're having fun on the street, you should probably be arrested. you won't learn anything on the street that will apply to racing.
Well, err...the CBR would take lots more time and parts to turn into a race bike than the Aprilia. The Aprilia 250 might be perfect. Admit it, you're rationalizing because you think you'll be a pussy on anything less than a 600. It's silly. Most good racers started smaller, and if you don't there's a pretty good chance that you're gonna get smoked by the guys that did.
no seriously i want it so i can have it on the street but i can easily convert it over so i can race it...im really not too interested in a 750 or 1000 or anything like that...just like the 600s and maybe even a 650
race bike I have a GSXR600 1998.... My first bike....very competitive....used to be a friend of mine who ran expert and is now an AMA team manager..... If interested let me know and I can email you the specs.....
250s arent bad but if its anything like a dirt bike im guessing maintenance on those has to be pretty high and im really not gonna be able to keep up two 2-stroke bikes but I guess im just hooked on those 600s
I think Kevin Parsons needs to get in here and talk to this guy. Get an old bike and start doing some track days first before getting on the track.
That 600 won't look very pretty on the street after you've crashed it once on the track .. Keep a race bike and street bike as two separate things.
you got any extra money for me to buy 2 bikes?... I really am struggling to pull together and get one let alone 2... ...really what im looking for is something i can use on the street first so i can get a feel for it. then after that i might change it into a race bike but for now something on the street is prefered but im always open for offers...
Then look at a SV650. There are enough 4-year novice 600 riders in the world already, you don't need to add to the numbers. - Roach
Phony!!! You are a joke dude! You only got that RM because you sweet talked your dad into getting for you when he found out you couldnt sell all of you junk! The drums, some video game system, games, and those stupid Pokeman Cards!!! Get real dude you cant ride and you definately dont deserve to be on the streets or a track! He dont have the money to get a bike guys and he dont have a job or at least not yet anyway! Why is it that everyone that gets a job or a new job wants to go out and buy a new toy that they wont be able to keep the payments up on or pay the insurance more times then they will be able to pay it? You guys are wasting your time trying to help this kid!! If needed I will post a few links to his posts over there about him getting a bike and about how after only a month he is the best thing on a bike!
