I wanted a big v8 Python back in those days. An endless hole of money, but man they sounded great in a quiet calm cove starting up.
I don't have to buy it, I lived it. This is me at the helm bringing in 2 of them that we "busted" when I was in Marathon. I say busted because we never actually caught one in my 3 years there, they just left them at the dock after unloading the cargo, we just brought them back. Customs in Miami got to keep them. Would have helped us to have one but noooo.
I was 21 years old and the captain of a $2 million dollar boat, I didn't give two shits about the war on drugs. That wasn't even a catch phrase when I was in. I was having a good time
Have you heard the stories of the rumrunners during prohibition....a guy building boats in New England with WWI V12 liberty engines...they were so fast and could out run the CG, the CG hired him to build them some boats...he made sure they were just a bit slower than the other guys boats...lol.
That's hilarious, I love it! My wife lived in Miami when I was dating her, and her apartment complex was right by the Customs holding area. I remember riding by there seeing them destroy boats and cars, all I could think is what a waste. My boat topped out at 26 knots, we weren't catching shit!
There are some pretty good youtube channels talking about the early 80s offshore PB scene, and where A LOT of those guys got their money and ummmmm experience in driving boats fast....LOL. I was a little to young to be in the peak 80's time but man it was cool watching these guys blast around offshore spending cubic dollars per minute. If you watched any of those races and didnt want a 40'+ Cigarette, Donzi, Fountain, etc with a pair of blown Big Blocks and Arnson surface drives...there would have been something wrong with you.
We went to Key West in 82 and 83 and watched the races from Mallory Square. I've got old Kodak pics of it somewhere. The coolest part was they all had helicopters following them, the same kind that TC flew in Magnum PI. What a scene! And my aunt (that was only 10 years older than me) lived in Ft Lauderdale and hung out with all the powerboat racers (she was a wild chick). They had money to burn. Now I'm going to talk some shit I was a cocky fuck back then, and I swear I could have driven those boats just as good as those pros given the chance. I took a way shittier boat through a hell of a lot more ocean than those guys ever saw. Yeah, I was going a lot slower, but it's all about reading the waves, which I was damn good at. I'd like to have seen them traversing through a tropical storm Alas I was just a poor dumb sailor, I didn't have daddy money.
Time capsule there. Hopefully the new owner keeps it just like it is. I wouldn't be mad about a Bravo drive swap
This must be the boat equivalent of “ran when parked”: “NOTE: The Boat has not been in the water, or run for 10 years, so it will require complete system maintenance prior to any operation. The Boat ran, and operated as it should on it’s last outing. ”
Maybe they didn’t program the camera right, but one of those pics says 2007. I’d bet the boat looks different (not better) today.
I saw that..based on what they said about it sitting 10 years...I think those are old pics....but thats what it could look like. My guess it sells for $15K...parts pricing
