That would be the suck. I ain't driving all the way to Texas to see Moto GP with an overpriced beer in hand.
Not surprised. I don't think the riders like the track very much either. And isn't two races the max any other country gets?
I was talking with a gent there today (off the record) and they've got a fire lit for some new promotional ideas this year. The riders don't really dislike the track. Stoner was obviously the most vocal but he bitched about everything. Want to keep one of the GP's in the 'States? Go. Plain and simple. Great town, seriously excellent facility and super nice employees to watch a race from and the most economical GP to see in the US. Or, sit on your butt at home and watch a race go away. :tut: -jim
Meh. I've been to Laguna and Cota but I really don't like the look of Indy. Maybe it's because it's not a "true" road course.
+1. Great place to watch. +1 again. Here's the thing; there's areas at Indy where you can watch 6-7 turns worth of action right in front of you, and then the rest of the lap on the Jumbotrons right there. Basically, you miss zero action - can't ask more of a live race event. That said, from a 'fan' perspective Indy should consider two things from last year's event and see what they can do to fix them: 1) A 'fan walk' of a bunch of closed garages and others where the bikes are tucked away behind half-open doors does not intrigue the punters wanting to see the machines up close. In 2008 the fan walk was outstanding - you could see everything, and they even included a podium tour; this past year none of that happened, and we got a much better close-up view of the machines at the NY Motorcycle Show then we ever saw at the race. 2) Get the damn wheelie machine away from the stage. During the Riders for Health auction it was totally cool seeing the top riders a few feet away, telling stories and making jokes. What was not cool was hearing that damn machine drown them out every couple of minutes, and the operator not having a clue that all the fans staring at him were pissed, not happy. That said, Indy's super-easy to get around, the people are totally cool, and the prices were reasonable. I'd hate to see it go away, and that's coming from a guy who drives 10 hours one way to be there
And Indy has that "Holy Shit" factor every year I've been back when you first go through the tunnel. It's BIG. -jim
You must talk to different riders. Venue, downtown, history, layout - ok Riding on the track surface - not ok
No you won't. Not until they unf@ck Schwantz. Not for the GP. not for the F1 race, not for an event where they pay me to come to.
