I moved to raleigh from rochester, NY for some of the same reasons you stated along with others..... like all have said anywhere near RTP would be good for IT work.... I am in north raleigh and housing doenst really seam to be that bad I am looking to purchase a house in the next month....

I would suggest talking to a realtor in the area that you plan on looking to move to... for the most part they will give you alot of "free" information if you ask them.... good luck on your move I have no regrets yet..... just wish it was hockey season again !

How is the culture shock for us Yankees?

This may sound stupid...How accepting is the population with regards to couples of mixed race? I am caucasion and wifey is Filipino...

FYI CARY = Containment Area For Relocated Yankees...

My ex-wife was an NY/NJ girl.. she came down here to go to school and loves it!!! She is an Real Estate Agent also ( www.soldbyemilie.hpw.com ).

Here I am pimpin' for my ex-wife again but she loves her job, she is very intelligent (MBA from Wake Forest), and IS NOT a salesman by nature. I know several poeple that have bought and sold w/ here help and they have all been overly pleased!!!!

What about Wilmington? That is a great place to live. The Hollywood of the East. Great town, close to Myrtle and a good central place. I am close to VIR, CMP, and RRR.

i wouldnt't move, lol. seriously i lived there for 1 year and it left a bad taste in my mouth big time, BUT i will say that i realize it was WHERE i lived that was so shitty and not the whole state. i lived ia little town called Warsaw in Duplin county - in the name of god dont go there! but wilmington was nice, didnt liek raliegh too much, chapel hill was nice too. but stay away from the clinton warsaw area, man i hated it there.

Tru-Dat... if you get away from the major areas it can be pretty backwards. there is still a lot of agriculture in the state... and between Ral and Wilmington there ain't much.

You can always move to Rocky Mount for excitment, more drug bust (weight) there than any city in the state believe it or not... It is about 1/2 way up 95 between Miami and NYC so go figure...

Research Triangle Park. Basically the Silicon Valley of the east. ;)

I work for NetApp as a tech support engineer. The company is the best I've EVER worked for. (I've done a lot of contracts over the years.) I have no fears of ever loosing my job. (BTW, they've already done the outsourcing thing. They learned their lesson, all support has been brought back to the US.) If you've been an admin of any kind (Unix or Windows based) and you want to get into storage (a dang good niche!) then let me know. We're hiring big time right now. If you're even remotely good, there's a very good chance I can get you in. :)

There is a little town north of raleigh called creedmoor in granville county you can be in rtp or durham in less than 30 mins nice country atmosphere and the houses are pretty cheap. Scholls are pretty good too. I lived there for over 10 years and loved it

Just as long as it's not like a caucasion New York-Alabama type of deal. :wow:

  16. Since nearly everyone in the Raleigh-Durham area is a transplanted Yankee, there won't be any culture shock.

check out Wrightsville Beach-Wilimington area. I lived there for 5 years and its very nice, great beaches and quaint little beach community. Very laid back lifestyle if you can afford to do nothing, like i did in college when i was there

You can always move out here to South Mountain with the rest of us mountain folk and learn to say cool things like "you-ins" and "we-ins", watch the sun rise over the mountains, listen to the stream babble its way down the hill and wonder when Verizon will finally build a tower close enough to reach you or why your land line phone goes out everytime it rains?
