There was indeed ramen! Silly me for not including it in the photo lol. Rooftop has sold me a lot of rather expensive ramen lol

Perfect timing for your post. I’ve been considering taking a class with Ben and Joel in September but was on the fence not knowing if it is worth the time and expense. I’m off the fence.

They could’ve just smacked it front and back with a plastic no bounce hammer. Would have left the guns with zero marks.

With all due respect…..you don’t drop these.

One of my friends who badly wanted an Atlas Erebus and had his focus set on one tried this TRS Comp today. He’s shot an Erebus. After the TRS Comp today…he’s looking for a way to get a TRS comp..he said it shoots better in almost every way.

You won't regret it. There is something to learn no matter what your skill level. They will find a hole in your game somewhere. Ben will mock you for it, and then you will know what to work on.

I would recommend bringing a spare gun, at least 3 guys had major failures. One dude's Shadow 2 irreparably self destructed, another guy broke the striker in his Glock and I don't remember what happened to the third guy. I shot 1,000 rounds over the two days, so your pistol will get a workout. Definitely bring tools and any spare parts you have as well.

I also recommend taking a roll of athletic tape. I wore a couple of holes in my hands from all the recoil.

I’d be curious how those those failed especially the Glock but it happens

Thank you all for the encouragement to compete. I ended up really enjoying the "intro to IDPA" class and really enjoy the atmosphere and the crowd. It was very safe event. Good crowd without any tactical bro vibes being thrown around. On the heels of that, I signed up for two local IDPA club matches (is this what you meant by outlaw matches @Resident Plarp?) next week. We'll see how that goes. At the moment, I'm going with IDPA out of convenience. There's a local club that's conveniently located. They have a lot of club matches and my overall commitment is pretty casual. As for going USPSA versus IDPA. Once I get a feel for IDPA, I'll give USPSA a go for comparison. Either way I want to just ease into the competitive side since my tendency is to go WFO as soon as I decide I enjoy something.

I have their co-written book that I need to start, but I am taking a 2 day pistol course with Baer Solutions later this year. I will also look into the Practical Shooting class as well. I learned my lesson with riding; I plowed ahead for years w/out any formal instruction in favor of the "seat time, bro!" approach and really wasted a lot of time not working on the fundamentals. It's not something I want to repeat with shooting.

Thank you all again for the input!

Shadow 2 had an out of battery detonation.

Glock had an aftermarket striker that failed (possibly a Zev).

    I've had a .45...hated it. If I want a (by your logic) REAL gun...I'll go 10mm.

    I'm with on getting instruction.

I could have shot 3000 rounds with no instruction for the same money as the class where I shot 1000 rounds.

I got way more out of the class than I would have just shooting 3 cases of ammo.

All that would have done was further ingrained my bad habits.

Outdoor season starts Thursday, can't wait.

    tiggen Things are lookin' up.

    I want another AK, more than 10", less than 16" . I've settled on a PSA AK-104 (GF3).

(I am aware that this is "stupid," that "PSA's are garbage," that I should get the chrome lined version, that I should instead get a xxx brand rifle, that AR's are superior, that AK's are not cheap any more, that 7.62 is not cheap any more, etc.)

This is a pure want thing, and this is the gun I can afford.

However, before purchasing, I want to make sure of the following:

Can I suppress this gun easily? Ie, do these PSA guns have concentricity problems like the imports?
Does KNS make a piston for this gun so that I can tune it easily? (I will call, just wondering if somebody here has already done it.)
Is RS Regulate still the go to side rail optic mount? Is there a dust cover rear sight block mount that holds zero?

    Also,

I want to shoot outdoors to about 200 yds. What optic/magnification would you put on it?
I will probably put wood furniture on it, but if I went tacticool, what are some good lightweight options for the 12.5" barrel length?

Been watching a bunch of Guntubers for AK: Brandon Herrera, KLAYCO47, AKOU. Who else has informed opnions on AK's?

Thank you for any advice. Gonna post this on Reddit as well.

Hey! What’s wrong with tactical bros?!?!:p

which class? I literally have their course schedule up on my phone as they are my top contender for a class later this year and I believe my employer may pay for it, though I have to wait til I get back from jury duty to ask.

I have a 104 and a gf3 rifle from psa. Personally I like them and they’ve been plenty reliable. The 104 and its 12.5” barrel do fine at 100 yards……yet to stretch it beyond that. The gf3 I did the kns thread adapter for my 30 cal can. No issues with concentricity or reliability. Thread is odd on the 104……fair warning. Lost round count on both, but it’s more than 1k but not much more than 2k +/- They’ve been great thus far, but admit it’s still low round count……….i got a zastava after, and that took over my AK time. So still need to figure out mounting the can to the 104 myself. Good luck and happy shopping
