I don't get the hype about him being not only a great drummer, but all the hype that says he is/was the best drummer. I can think of three that immediately jump ahead without any sweat; Neil Peart, Carter Beauford (Dave Matthews), and Mike Portnoy. I would even put Jeff Porcaro up there too.

I suspect that most people are confusing most influential with all time best. Every subsequent generation builds on what came before and very few individuals actually stand out as a game changer.

Go on YouTube and search eruption. Tons of guitarists out there sound just as good if not better than EVH live, hell even kids, but find someone playing like that before Eddie.
