The economics of my projects would be envious of that. I'm really good at turning $10k into $5k very quickly......
I get the appeal of a stock RZ, but a hybrid is better. I got a complete 04 R6 front for $400, the FZR rear was the same and included an F4i shock. Race type tails are cheap, and keep the stock tank. All the small parts to finish it aren't expensive. You can still find used aftermarket exhausts for cheap. I figure by the time I get mine back together I'll have less than $2500 in it. The only issue is me getting off my ass
I also fantasize about resto modding a RZ with modern suspension, brakes and bored and stroked engine. Only thing keeping me from it is time and too many projects already. One day maybe...maybe.
So does Avon However, as some of you have alluded to, I can share the experience of an acquaintance, The Collector. He's had several hundred bikes in his collection over time, and he would tell you, buying the very best example of a bike is the cheapest way to obtain a good example. Buying a fixer always costs more.
With the exception of my $500 Mach 1, I have found this to be true. However, I enjoy building a bike from a pile of parts, so there's some value in that.
You mean like this https://www.ebay.com/itm/1358114082...pid=5339007057&customid=&toolid=20012&mkevt=1
The seller just sent a text saying he can go to 5 and that's his rock bottom. We're getting closer but not quite there yet...
I've been blessed on occasion, where I didn't get something I wanted. And then something better comes along, for less money.
