I made a deposit at the drivethrough yesterday; a couple of checks and $1300 in cash - sold onea the dirty bikes - (65) $20's which I had counted at the house, three times just to make certain, at which point I did my usual OCD type word association and said to myself "Heh - Lucky 13" (It helps me remember things). I placed the envelope with all the funds and deposit slip in the tube and about a minute later I am informed that there is only $1200 in cash. I ask that she count it again. She comes back with "Still only $1200". My reply at that point is "We then have a HUGE problem, better get the manager". Dudeman then informs me that the counting machine has been double checked, the drawers have been counted, blah blah. I told him that really means nothing to me (as in any missing funds are most likely "pocketed" by this point and not gonna turn up out in the open, and that I'd be inside the bank as soon as I parked and would be closing my account. I've been with this bank through 20 years and 4 major name changes, now currently Wells Fargo, and had a pretty large chunk stashed away with them, ie no reason to go postal on them over $100. Later in his office as he handed me the certified check, I told him he had a big problem out there - pointing to the drivethrough. He tells me he hoped to be calling tomorrow with an explanation and hopefully the missing funds would turn up. My question - Are there cameras recording the tellers, or just aimed at potential thieves across the counter? I'm also seriously thinking of filing a police report. What say any banking types?
One of the main reasons that I no longer used the "big banks". I use credit unions. The big banks have policies that don't protect the consumer. I hope you recoup your funds.
Yeah Heading to the credit union on Monday. Clark Howard said so - One look at that guy and you'd think 'Wha"?, then the next look at his old lady and you go "OK"!
At my wife's work, yea cameras all over them, not to mention they have drawers they have to balance as well. Cash counters are usually really accurate.. You sure you didnt get distracted while counting? Good luck figuring it out.
Yeap. When it comes to cash or burgers, I never go to the drive thru. Too easy to "lose" some or have Misses I'm working on my GED at 23 spit on your whopper.
Sometimes you just deal with a stupid fuck...that's in any business. But if the draw count doesn't produce the overage, you're dealing with a thief. Wait on the managers response and go from there. Good luck, Coop.
In the words of Yossarian: There, there. There, there. It's 99.9% likely they have cameras on the tellers. It's 99% likely you'll never get to see the video.
Cops aren't going to do anything, the tapes will show nothing, you're out 5 twenties and someone spit on your whopper. Sorry to say it that way but no point in sugar coating it.
My wife is a district manager for a large bank and has 20+ branches that report to her. She said that video will be on the teller window most likely not the teller. So even if video exists it will be very hard to see a specific transaction. She said that if you do not find a resolution with the manager ask for the regional or district manager. Also you can keep going further up the executive chain if you don't get a resolution at the regional or DM level... You said that you have been with the bank for 20 years and you should emphasis that. Likely that the bank will not want to lose you over $100 but your results may vary. Ride safe, AAron
Never drive through with cash. If I'm depositing large amounts of cash my credit union teller has me count it out in front of her, then she re-counts. No questions, no hassle. Sucks dude but it happens more than you think.
Open an account with a bank or credit union that has installed the new- style ATMs that allow direct cash deposits without envelopes. The machine scans each bill and shows you the exact $ amount before you press "Deposit." The machine is much less error-prone than a human teller.
My Credit Union has had these for years. You also get a print out with a image of each deposited check on your receipt if you wish. Pretty snazzy
