this is the type of discussion Id like an influencer and title sponsor to dissect. Also fan tattoos have not been brought into the conversation...
My post could be interpreted in numerous ways, to suit the perspective of the reader. Robby extrapolated enough information from a single sentence to launch a vitriolic polemic condemning Rossi to eternal mediocrity.
When talking VR vs. MM we could always look at common opponents. How many times did Dovi beat VR? and how many times did he beat MM?
Why not speak in such a manner that it doesn’t leave it up to people to interpret? Ya know, like instead of passive aggression, with a dab of sarcasm and condescension, mixed in with your thesaurus of a vocab, and put it into terms where we don’t need a legal analysis to understand? like this: Rossi was GREAT compared to 99% of MotoGp racers over the years. I’m not sure anyone has denied that. The issue seems to be the ones that can’t accept that even Rossi has stated that Stoner was certainly faster. As well as Marquez. but if we are talking GOAT, the only real comparison is Ricky Carmichael. What got his goat status? was it Carmichael shirts? Curly red haired wigs? His flamboyant almost gay like celebrations? nope, it was his raw speed and the way he demoralized his competition. almost exactly the way Stoner and MM did to Rossi. if we are all just being completely honest. With all due respect of course.
Do those stats take into account things like Marquez beating opponents on a bike he developed into an unrideable turd, or Stoner wiping the field while hampered by quarts of strawberry Nestle Quick in his belly? Some things are harder to quantify than others. Edit: That Nestle rabbit bears a striking resemblance to someone I referenced.
Correct if the measurement is racing a factory MotoGp bike and winning against dudes on home built CB 350’s. would be similar to Baubier on his M1000 and the others were all on emfields in some cases
The problem is Mongo doesn't think pure talent is remotely close to the only GOAT requirement...if such a thing could be determined. If you're going off just raw holy fuck the things they can do on a bike - I'd put Schwantz up for it. The man even now can ride the hell out of things from road to trials to dirt.
I am still going with Kenny Roberts Sr. Given his ability to win on everything he raced, he could have easily transitioned to the 4 stroke era of MotoGP and run at the front. If he had raced the 500s the whole time he was racing in America in FT and RR he would be way up there in wins and championships. Anybody that says any different is a stoopyhead and wrong. Back me up here Robby Bobby, since he is your new BFF!
I think MM93 and Stoner both so similar and raw talent. Above Rossi with man-handling a motorcycle like nobody else. Rossi was smooth as glass and has the best race-craft. I think Rossi is the goat. But I do admire the way stoner and Marc can ride motorcycles. Would have loved to see Stoner and MM93 go head to head on good machinery in their prime. Both sliding the thing around. Fun to watch. I respect all three more than anyone else. The argument about Marc having stiffer competition then Rossi in his prime is hard to swallow honestly.
