So pulled my tanks and after releasing the disconnect fitting the tank fuel outlet valve is not closing completely and is fast paced dripping . So for the price of the strainer screen $50 and with the price of the actual filter $400, and jobber replacement pumps are $60 on flee bay that seems like a better solution. So are the jobber ones OK ? reliable and acquitted pressure? this would be no a 05 GSXR 1000
the OEMs dont want to sell you just a pump. Ive had good luck with Quantum because they sell the filter socks, pump seals, & regulators with their replacement kits. They are usually under $100 complete with pump, etc. You can disassemble the stock assembly so you know the exact orientation of the connectors and comb walbros catalog for a match if the basket isnt corroded. A complete drop in with level sensor, etc is $500+
So when you opened the fitting, fuel leaked and it would not stop that is your issue. To me this sounds like a failed o-ring inside of the casing where the pump attaches to. Pull it apart, check the o-ring I think they run 2 top o-rings if im not mistaken.
yes after pulling the fitting fuel continues to leak out. I would have done that but something else is also happening with the pump so just to be rid of the fueling issues I'll just replace the complete pump unit. I don't have a lot of info on the history of the bike but it is a very low mile bike a sat for a long time and appears the fuel system was not stored properly.
I replaced the pump in my K8 GSXR 600 4-5 years ago. Used one from ebay that the brand had a good reputation (mistubishi oem) but can't recall the brand name. No issues yet.
