It is a valuable pc of equipment but is is not manditory. You're in the Novice group, correct?

Shouldn't be a problem especially in Nov. Not certain that an SV really needs one at all if it is set up close to correct. They are required for racing however.

yes im in the novice group. im just getting in to this. i sold all my motorcross equipment and four wheeler and im hooked on these bikes now. I raced motorcross and crosscountry races for about eight years and i just quit once i met my girlfriend and her dad races an sv. lol. i have a suzuki shop in the family and i can get a pretty good deal on a GPR.

It's not necessary, but it's a nice bit of insurance. I've only been to Mid-Ohio twice, but I had my steering damper set very soft there compared to some other tracks.
I wouldn't be concerned, but if you're planning on doing more of this, then why not just spend the coin now?

You're fine without a damper for novice riding at Mid-O. I'm sure the guy on the BMW R1100 at the last Mid-O day didn't have one.

WERA Rule 2.L.) "A steering damper is MANDATORY on all machines and must be mounted in a safe and workmanlike manner. The damper must not overly limit the amount of stock lock-to-lock handlebar travel."

i vote save your money for now. Especially at Mid-Ohio, you're dealing with a really smooth surface.

is your 'deal' on the GPR going to expire any time soon?

Get it and be done. When the time comes that you need it you will be happy you have it. This is an expensive hobby.

If not. I am sure once you do the track day you will come home and be shopping for everything from new fork internals to tire specials.

I know I did after my first track day. I was hooked.
