i'm doing the daily grind. i've got the History Channel on in the back ground. there's an Evel Knievel special on...that guy is crazy. i'd say he's a real stunter.
Evel Knievel can slam a revolving door. I watched him jump busses or something on a HD. He almost made it.
I'm sorry, but after watching E.K. ever since he got his start "jumping" various objects all that I can say about him is that he is nothing more than a person that will very nearly kill himself just for the thrill of hearing the crowd roar. He has no real riding talent. (he crashes about as often as not) I suspect that most people go to see E.K. just to see if he kills himself. He is however, one hell of a showman and knows how to promote himself. If he had equal riding skills he would be a superman.
Blasphemy! Take it back! "he is nothing more than a person that will very nearly kill himself just for the thrill of hearing the crowd roar." -That's why he's the MAN!!! Knievel is the shit...I'm sorry: he walks on water and can do no wrong. he's also a first-class ladies man... (sorry for the rant but i've never heard anyone talk bad on the guy show jumped the fountain at Ceasar's Palace...) http://www.itsalreadysigned4u.com/shop/media/images/product_detail/AAA-75170.jpg
hey, we all do this road race stuff (or do you?) for the thrill of it. and everyone on the track is "on the edge" everytime they lean the bike over. there may not be the roar of a crowd for us but it's what we enjoy. he enjoyed jumping over stuff and even though he nearly killed himself many times, he never quit. he had enough talent to do what he was doing. does it take talent to go up a ramp? not as much as it takes balls. would you have done it? it does take talent to land a jump though and i'm sure he has landed more jumps than he has crashed so i will have to disagree with your statement above. people would go to see Evel Knievel jump because it's unusual. kind of like the guys that ride the bikes in the sphere at the circus. you dont watch them because you want to see them kill themselves, you watch it because it's cool and unusual. and yes, he made a lot of money promoting himself and knows how to put on a show. he is a superman to many of us so if he is not to you then you are banned from this thread!! now get out!!
He was good at jumping, considering what he was riding especially. But, the thing that made him special (IMP) is that he'd either be presented witha huge jump, or think it up himself, and say, "F#ck ya I can jump that." Period. The guys who make big jumps they know they can make every time have skills and some brass. E.K. had the balls to try jumps when he wasn't sure he could make it. Think about the image back then of "bad ass" risk-taking, girl-chasing bikers...99 out of 100 were just guys on bikes, and 1 was a real bad ass. He was The One.
Um,people, look a little closer, especially Caesar's Palace. He made the jumps, the bike didn't.When he landed, the frame would stretch another foot, forks would flex, and then contract, spitting him off.Bike development wasn't there at that time.Explains part of why his son can do what he does so well.
I think his son does more impressive jumps. Like kjohnson said though, technology has came a long way.
i laugh. like this> i don't know...it doesn't look right seeing his son ride red. especially being in a white suit with stars and stripes.
