Ear plugs

Discussion in 'General' started by kyle carver, Aug 1, 2024.

  1. I have 3 sets of custom ear plugs. One set I had made at at a BSB race a few years ago that are amazing. Paid give or take $100 usd for them and worth every penny. Not sure the db rating but seem to be the best ones I have. 2nd set was at an nhra event last year. They were $75 and meh. Don’t use them anymore. Thought I lost my good ones so bought a $50 kit off Amazon. Not sure what brand but seems similar to above. Easy to mold. Work about as good as my other ones. Super comfortable and stay put well in my ear when approaching triple digits on the water.

I got one of these trial sets a decade ago, found two that work and order them by the 200-500 pack and keep a dispenser in the moto van. Definitely worth the effort.

The custom ones that people get molded might fit better, but most people I see who have those seem to all lick them to put them back in to get them to seal.

I guess I got lucky that the regular foam ones fit comfortably for me and work great. I buy the jars of 50 pairs for $12 to last the whole season

Putting your spit on earplugs is just gross. :Puke:

Never did it. I preferred the orange foam plugs with the flared end. Just roll/squish em between your fingers then pop em in and they work fine.

I always wear the little lime green ones.Cut off the string as close as possible, and keep them stored in the flap of my Knox gloves. They have a perfect flap for putting them in,and a great reminder when you look down and see them while going out,and have to pull over and put em in...Im old..

I should post pics of the actual 3M earplugs that i wear at work for 1/2 the day, everyday. I lick them, stick em in with dirty nasty concrete hands. Pluck them out, and wad them up with earwax and all and put back in the 3M little case thingy and in my sweaty ass pocket they go til I pull them back out, wipe off the wax, spit on them again, and in the ears they go. Rinse repeat all day long. But really don't rinse them at all.

I'd rather have dirty ears that can hear, vs clean ears that can't.

Even the motogp dudes were licking/spitting and twisting their foam ear plugs before getting on track.

Yuuukk!!!....Sorry,but I'm a sissy boy with my ears! I don't want my drink,or meal spit on my ear plugs.Yes,I do pull out tons of wax, from time to time, but those get trashed. Not judging,I use to landscape, and we all drank from the same cooler, sweat on each other in the truck, but now Im sophisticated, and I wont even touch a public restroom door w/o some towels. :D

Saw Mladin do this years ago at the track and I’ve been doing it that way ever since.

    I also gained 2 seconds/lap after that

3m bag of 200 orange foam ear plugs.. keep em everywhere. soft foam. some from other mfgs are firmer and feel big in your ear. For some reason the ones that come in individually bagged pairs of plugs are not as soft. may have to try a few kinds before you find ones that ya like.
roll between fingers and thumb, lick the end a wee bit, stick it in. Dirt bikes all the time, no way would i get on a road race bike without em.
