I had an sv that I mounted a PIAA light on each side of the front fender. Was cheap and worked really well surprisingly. Super easy to take on and off at the track too.
I am assuming you have all the kickstand stuff removed. When you install the kickstand, if you aren't going to rewire it, at least put a label on the gauges that says "KICKSTAND" as a reminder. If not, that first left turn is going to be a bitch.
having a headlight on can make a difference but its not 100%, even cars have daytime running lights and it helps deter not eliminate accidents
I know printers are pretty good these days but do you really think they cannot tell the difference between a sticker and a headlight?
for the most part......yes, unless of course your behind a cop car at night, why would they suspect its fake, its not like there is a mass population of racers doing this accross the country
Clamp mount fog light on a fork tube. Run the wires down with a plug. Takes about a minute to install/uninstall.
I did a quick-change street setup for my race bike at one point. I made a single plug quick disconnect for the rear stop/tail light & turn signals. The plate, taillight and turn signals were one assembly, and they attached with two bolts. So one plug and two bolts for the entire rear end to be "street legal". For the front, I had a PIAA light mounted via dzus fasteners to the front fairing, also with a quick disconnect plug. Then the stock GSXR mirrors have turn signals in them, so those were two bolts/one plug each. Of course I had to bolt on the kickstand again too, and I removed my race numbers (or covered them). Whole setup was maybe 10 minutes tops to convert, and it was legal enough to not ever get hassled. Now, actually riding it was another story. Being on a bike is better than not, but the thing was super uncomfortable for my 38 mile all-freeway commute. I thought it would be better than my supermoto, and I was wrong! Full race suspension just doesn't work on the street. ETA pics: PIAA mounted via dzus: And crappy pic of the rear. The taillight is a CRF450X slim LED unit right above the plate, and the signals are LED. All bolted together using Home Depot hardware so it's a two-bolt attach/detach.
Hope this helps. Here is a link to the light I used. I mounted it to a male Gopro connector, then just used a gopro mount on the bike to attach my light. http://tripageled.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&path=104&product_id=55
This is my ghetto set up. I've logged a decent amount of street miles like this and no issues with the man so far...
BEAUTIFUL WORK!!!!!!!! I bought the sharkskinz headlighted upper....had I seen this post before, I would have had you make me one of yours...Much cooler looking, and well done EDIT.... BTW, what would you charge to have that mod done?
Using this thread for inspiration, here is what I have come up with so far. As I mentioned, I have a very high output light that I have used for dirt biking and mountain biking. I used some Loc-Tite to glue the mount on the inside of the ram air duct. I also used some zip ties and drilled some holes to help secure the mount and light to the bodywork. The light kit came with some connectors that run to the battery, so I ran the wires under the seat and hooked it all up. Next: I'll probably do a mirror / turn signal combo to finish the front, and I'll most likely grab some type of universal license plate setup from Cycle Gear for the brake and running lights on the rear. I gotta admit: I am nervous about riding this thing on the street. A loud, lime green bike with race #s is going to draw a lot of unwanted attention. It doesn't help that everyone hates sportbikers even more ever since the SUV / biker crew debacle. I've been planning to get a Ducati Monster or something for the street, but this seems like a more economical alternative that will help me save some $$$ for racing.
Take the bodywork off and zip tie a cheap, used headlight with a broken tab to the fairing stay. Streetfighters are cool and you don't have multiple sets of bodywork. On a strange FYI, a guy I know bought a set of headlight stickers off Kruzel and used to ride his trackday bike on the street. He said no one ever looked twice at it. You have to remember, your brain fills in a lot of the picture for your eyes. I would doubt that the average non-motorcyclist would actually register that "the headlights were off" in the real world of scanning. I'm not saying I would do it, but I think if you don't care about your license, you'll be fine. As far as headlights making you more visible; how is it that I ride my high beams on and people still pull out in front of me all the time? Because people don't look, they text and talk on their cell phones.
