Also unless things have changed Honda East Toledo had a fantastic sales team. The price they quoted was the price I paid.

Been a long time but that should be how business is done. Anything less is shady and dishonest.

I don't go to a store until I have all the figures. It's too easy to get pencil fucked in the heat of the moment. I already know what tier credit I have and what rate I qualify for before any conversation. I reach out to the internet sales department(starting with the closest dealer to me) and let them know I'm shopping around and to give me the best OTD they can and that they only have one shot because I don't do the back and forth BS. If they aren't cool with it fuck them.

The last 3 new trucks and the last bike was handled this way and was way less stress. Being able to review the docs at my convenience without some buzzard hovering over me is perfect.

At least in Florida, the bait and switch BS is illegal. The have to show those BS fee's in the advertising, unfortunately, nobody polices it. You also have sales people using their personal FB account and they do whatever they want.

Here in So-Cal they wont give you OTD price over phone. Only in person. Then they still try to avoid it until they know where you stand with cash/credit, downpayment etc...

The no otd number bullshot is why I won't buy one. I've bought a couple cars with no pain but the only dealership that didn't sick (jersey shorel NJ Husqvarna) closed last year.

My local NJ Ducati dealer flat sucks. I've had two salesman lie to my face. Setup is $1200. Not seeing any of my money ... ever.

This isn't bait and switch, that is an entirely different unethical business practice. This is an ignorant consumer not knowing how a business works and then crying that they didn't want to pay any fees on top of MSRP. Those fees vary from state to state so the mfg can't just build them into the msrp. Anybody that goes into a dealership or talks to them on the phone without getting the OTD price is just ignorant. Don't whien about it, just do your due diligence and either buy a bike for what you are willing to pay, or don't.

To be fair, that's not a complicated task for the dealership (they started doing the same thing on new MV Agustas that they're shipping to dealers). It is a transport lock that limits how far the bike cab be ridden (without being unlocked) to ensure bikes are less likely to be stolen, and if they are stolen, they can only be used for a very short time. It should take a dealer a few minutes to unlock a transport lock.

Interesting news!!! We just had the Sales Managers of KTM and MV Canada in our shop today. They said there's a new Canadian law that's already passed that requires dealers to include ALL fees (not taxes) in their advertised prices. They also said there's a decent chance California will be adopting a similar law perhaps in 2025 or soon after.

This is just a random link I found when googling just now:

https://www.omvic.ca/buying/your-ri...advertising is,and licensing are not included.

We used to sell new jet skis in the early nineties. We were all about out the door prices. We'd break down the final price in detail. We couldn't believe people would buy elsewhere because the "base price" was higher than other dealers.

You have people telling you dealerships won't to give you OTD over the phone. How are you supposed to do your due diligence when the dealerships are playing games?

And by the time you're in there you're probably committed to buying and it's a perfect time to take advantage of somebody that maybe wants to walk out with motorcycle that day.

Once again what is wrong with posting all the fees and the total price on the bike as CarMax and Carvana does with their cars?

Is that just a bridge too far for you?

So yeah it's definitely bait and switch. Lure a customer into the dealership with a impossibly low number and then add 28% of fees on top of that. As per OP.

It amazes me people will sit there and defend shady business practices as if because it's always been done this way it needs to continue as such. Literally boomer shit.

    TLDR,

I believe Honda and now ALL the other manufacturers have changed the MSRP so that it now does NOT include shipping or assembly etc. So that alone creates a bigger gap between MSRP and OTD which pisses off customers. Believe it or not there isn't much to be made on the sell. Unless financed at the dealer. The dealer hopes that you buy accesories and gear with a new purchase these days. Then service it there.

Are you seriously presenting these as real arguments?

No OTD price over the phone, just saved me a trip to a dealer I don't want to buy from.
Nothing is wrong with posting a total price, except it can vary with purchasing other stuff or financing or whatever. MSRP plus additional costs means that anybody with half a brain and the ability to ask questions can figure out what the OTD price for them will be.
This isn't "boomer" shit, it is the consumer being responsible with their money and making informed business decisions.

I just bought a new bike from the dealership a couple of weeks ago. The salesman gave me the OTD price over the phone and when I questioned him on the dealer prep fee he told me the amount. I questioned the amount and he sent me to the sales manager. He let me know that he didn't have much room to deal since it was their last one of that model until the 2025's came in and if I didn't want it he had another customer that did. I told him the OTD price was a little high and he asked me what would make me happy. I gave him a price that was a couple of hundred off and he took it. I gave him a card for a down payment and did a bank transfer for the remainder, drove the 3 hours to the dealership the next day and picked up my new bike. If a dealer isn't that easy to deal with, pick a different dealer.

I was a Suzuki dealer from 2000-2010, MSRP never included shipping or assembly. An assembly charge today is really bullshit because they're basically together, GSXR's you had to put the screen on and swing the bars into place. The cruisers you had to put on the front wheel, fender and bars so set up isn't much. I don't know about now but then the mark up from dealer to MSRP was 17 % and I think all the Jap company's were the same. We didn't add anything for set up or extra fees and tried to sell at a 10% mark up.

I too got OTD pricing over the phone and then he emailed me a buyer's order to look over. I had the same experience when I bought a new 2011 truck in Oct of 2010. In both cases, plus the two I mentioned earlier about my wife's bikes..........OTD pricing and it was easy-peasy.
