Clutch dragging in gear

I put a new Yoyodyne clutch and new plates in my R6 mid season last year. Never had an issue until GNF when the bike started to move forwards when I was holding it at a high rpm with the clutch in on the grid. I had to hold the bike back with my feet until the launch (because I’d forget to release the rear brake at the start if I did that instead). I haven’t had any clutch issues at the last four or five track days otherwise. I forgot about this issue until my first race of the year this past weekend.

I’m going to replace the clutch plates because they probably need replaced regardless, but is this a common symptom of worn plates? I can’t imagine the clutch basket is already grooved.

Sounds like the clutch cable is too loose. Make sure the gap at the clutch lever is correct and not too wide. I would also check the pivot arm on the clutch cover make sure its at the correct angle

    Cable or actuator adjustment....

One or more warped steels? I ran in circles chasing the same behavior with my WR250ZD, the clutch had PLENTY of pressure plate movement, but as noted above if you held it in while in gear and waited, it'd slowly start to grab on it's own. Revs made it happen quicker. Ultimately a full clutch pack replacement got it sorted.

Two of the friction plates were broken and missing about a half inch piece. So now I'm wondering, where are those pieces and what damage might they do?

If they are Barnett... clog the oil pump pickup. Id drop the oil pan

Martin Lewis Can we go back to the track already?

Definitely worth dropping the oil pan. The oil screen and filter will keep anything from making it into the bearings, but the risk is always having a clogged oil pick-up screen and starving the engine of oil.

Always good to see a smoking gun for such an issue
